I'm still on the fence mainly because of limited auto knowledge. Is just this "snake oil" being well marketed to my kind or is it legit? It seems like everyone would obviously want one based on pics of the garbage it prevents ending up in our 50k trucks. I have no fear of warranty issues as it seems simple enough to just take it off. I'm a little concerned of the freezing lines. Outside of this can anyone tell me why I shouldn't install one?

We have no plans or desire to turn this into a large debate. Our PCV Catch Cans (oil separators) work, as designed, tested, and advertised. There’s a ton of information and evidence available on the advantage of installing a Catch Can on your vehicle. If this is not a modification you plan to do, we respect your decision.

Could You explain the difference between single and dual port cans?

 

 

The E2-Single and E2-X Single Catch Cans are the most in-depth mix of flow dynamics and air/oil separation combined to provide the most effective non-centrifuge systems to date.

 

Both designs utilize a unit sized to properly allow for the CFM of flow of today's PCV systems that allows for the speed of flow through to slow to the point of not only allowing the suspended liquids to separate fall, but also prevents liquid droplets from being "pulled through" and out as most other cans allow. The internal design directs the liquid laden vapors from the PCV system through 3 separate chambers with optimized coalescing, condensing, and baffle separation as each step separates and removes not only suspended oil mist, but also un-burnt fuel, sulfuric acid, and the abrasive carbon and soot particles that contribute to premature engine wear and the intake valve coking issues that plague ALL of today's Direct Injection gasoline engines resulting in the prevention of intake valve deposits, longer engine life, increased fuel economy (due to the reduction in ignition timing through knock-retard) and reduced tail-pipe emissions.

 

The E2-Single and the E2-X Single outlet Catch Can systems are recommended for those with a Naturally Aspirated engine (NA) that is not raced or driven hard and roots style (top mount) Supercharged vehicles that are not raced or driven hard. Excellent for Fleet use on cars, light trucks and vans where fuel economy improvement is the primary goal or the everyday driver that wants long term protection from intake valve coking and extended engine life.

 

The E2-Dual and the E2-X Dual outlet Catch Can Systems have all the features of our Singe outlet and more! A must for the aggressively driven NA or roots style SC vehicle, and all forms of turbo or centrifugal super charging where the intake manifold becomes pressurized by boost and a secondary evacuation suction source is needed. The dual valve addresses crankcase pressure building due to lack of intake manifold vacuum under acceleration and intake manifold drops to zero due to reversion pules that occur under acceleration by always providing a near constant evacuation and flush flow through the crankcase without venting to the atmosphere. The dual outlet series allows the user to tap into the suction available pre-throttle body to take over the evacuation when under acceleration on NA engines and top mount SC engines, or the turbo/Centrifugal SC inlet for those that have not found a suitable solution for the unique requirements for proper crankcase evacuation, avoiding pressure buildup in the crankcase, and wanting to maintain emissions compliance for street use WITHOUT sacrificing the longevity and durability of your engine as the "Vented" or "Breather" solution do.

If this concerns you that much, then I suggest you do not do the mod. Those of us they don't suffer from an enlarged paranoia gland will continue on with the catch can thing. My Cadillac and my Silverado both have catch cans on them, have both been in the dealership shop with the catch cans installed and how they work, the benefits, and showing the results to the personnel with techs and supervisors who agreed it was beneficial. Now that is not going to be the same for everyone, but one should already have an idea of how their dealership will react to such things anyway. And if I was had a vehicle that was problematic enough that the warranty thing was a major concern if the OEM was going to honor it, time to move on to another brand. I don't like owning stuff that has a high failure risk.

 

Let's see.... GM knows what it is doing.... can you say "Chevy Vega"? Can you say.... "bankruptcy"? I have seen enough evidence over the last 50 years that GM screws the pooch often enough to enable me to comfortably question most things that they do. And the engineers do not have the final say on the final implementation of a product. That is the part most folks fail to take into consideration.

I can say Vega. My 1st car was a 73 Vega, bought it for $100.00, sold it a year later for $150.00. Used almost as much oil as gas.

Question for Elite ........ 2017 6.2 will be stock with a tune DD and towing I assume you would suggest the E2 dual ?? thatwould have the clean side separator correct ?? The X is just a larger size can correct ??

 

Does the std size E2 allow you to take apart can to clean out the chambers ?? Im not new to catch cans have had one on both ny 2004 and 2010 5.3 but not familar with elite new truck coming so looking for a new one for it

Yes on all counts. The additional port will be for your clean side. If you're towing the CSS will benefit you more since you'll be pulling less vacuum. The E2 does come apart for cleaning and is available with single or dual port and the X is just a larger can with a drain valve and won't separate for cleaning.

This is my E2 single port with check valve. Don't know why I can't rotate the image though. When you go on to the Elite website, it spells it all out for you. All the cans will work on any vehicle but the hose length will very between them. The E2 is the next generation following their original design which has more chambers for condensing the vapor. The original and the E2 do separate for cleaning and emptying. The E2 X is larger for more capacity (doesn't do a better job separating than the E2) and has the drain valve.

Here's a little more information:

Our E2 or our E2-X Catch Cans are the best two options.

The E2 Catch Can comes complete with hoses, mounting bracket, and all hardware, but does not include the Clean Side Separator or Exit check valve (these can be added as options). I actually run the E2 Single Exit Catch Can on my own 2015 GMC 6.2L Truck.

The E2-X Catch Can "Kit" includes (1) exit check valve and (1) Clean Side Separator.
The E2-X Catch Can "Only" comes with mounting bracket, hoses and connecting hardware (but no Clean Side Separator or check valve).

    • Around 2008 if memory serves they took sulfur out. That was when diesel went up. 
    • Question for you Grumpy, why is diesel so much more than gasoline? Seems to me that it may be slightly a little less refined than gas and it doesn't have 10% alcohol which presumably lowers the price of gas

    • How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit. 
    • Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?
