There was a lot behind the GMC because it's so large. I also took Sierra off but it wasn't near as hard as the GMC. I used an eraser wheel attached to a drill. Made it really easy. On my other truck I sat there and rubbed it off with my fingers and after a while it's not so pleasant on the fingers. Eraser wheel first then sprayed a gunk remover and wiped clean. Don't leave any scratches. Bought mine on Ebay for $6.

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to trucks but i am interested in getting a camper for my standard bed 79". Would campers from other sierra and silverado campers fit on the new 2019-2020 trucks? Or if other campers from other truck models fit if they're the same width and length? Trying to look for budget friendly used camper when the opportunity comes up. Thanks in advance. ?

If you find one I'm sure it wouldn't fit properly or look very well.

Leer 100XQ was installed last Friday. First thing I noticed when I opened the cap rear door were the concealed, flat door hinges. Online videos I viewed of the 100XQ showed the "C" hinges, like on the ARE Z2. Those videos were pre-T1 GM trucks. When I closed the cap rear door, I noticed the obvious, Leer has a new mold for these T1 100XQ's, at least this Multi Pro Tailgate model. The top of the cap is no longer smooth all the way across. The contours start at the front of the cap, inline with the two main truck cab contours, and run the full length of this cap to the back. The center section of the cap is lower than the outer sides, height matches much better to the cab/spoiler. The contours run directly over the hinge mount location. That may be why these new 100XQ's have the flat exterior hinges as compared to the previous"C" hinges. Clearance/mounting issues with the "C" style hinges in this contour area.

Overall fit is good, the bottom edges of the cap are smooth, no obvious chips or cracks. Paint color match is also good. Rear door closes okay and it fits the Multi Pro Tailgate.

Ordered this with the Leer plug and play T connector. A thank you to ShamrockShooter for that advice back on page 2, I had no idea that connector was available. No warning messages or other display screen/electrical issues so far, have not tested a trailer connection yet.

I will try to post 2 sets of pics, some with this post showing side and rear view, more on a future post showing views of the cap top shape. First attempt trying to post pics..

I almost ordered the rack system on mine but never needed before.

Posted

I had the same style rack system on my previous Leer 100XL and could not believe how much I used it. The ability to haul so many different items 8'-12' and longer without needing a trailer makes the cap(and truck) incredibly more versatile. When we head to the cabin the box is frequently full. If needed the rack can easily handle ladders,  lumber, etc. and the utility trailer can stay home. No question I will use the rack more than ever now with the short box on this crew cab! Just depends on how you use your truck.

Here are the pics. Black rubber domed screw holders up against the inside cap carpeting likely have a threaded insert(?), they don't appear to be snap-on covers over a nut, but they could be. Either way, a threaded screw going down through from the top into an underside fastener. My old XL100 just had a flat washer and a nut on the underside from the factory, these new parts are much nicer(and softer on my head). Mounting dimensions:  1) tracks are 46.125" apart on center; 2) actual track length 58.5"; 3) track end caps are 1.5" long each end; 4) cross bars are 56" wide flat mounting surface between the end covers, about 58" with end covers. There is a rubber seal between the tracks and the cap. Cross bars are easily adjustable for width. According to the dealer this is the Thule Tracker system (old style square bars). These old style cross bars are vinyl or rubber coated and are incredibly strong. There may be some wind noise at high speeds, but it was never noticeable in my 2010 Silverado LTZ. The bars remove very easy anyways, when not in use they can ride in the box if wind noise becomes an issue. The newer aero bars are stylish and have all types of accessories that mount to them, but I have no need for any of those. Adjustable forward/back mounting brackets tighten down with 2 allen head fasteners.

Appears to be an easy job if you have someone to hold up the inside "nuts" for the track screws. I don't know if they use some type of sealant or not for the screw holes, I did not see any visible sealant on these. Never had any leak issues on the XL100 track screws.

Thanks nycen. Will look forward to those pics when you get a chance to post them. I could not find a single ARE dealer in my area who had a Revo in stock so I could look closely at that curved back glass. Seems like most ARE and Leer dealers in the area are happy to handle 2 or 3 cap styles and know very little about the rest of the caps from that company. There just aren't that many choices in caps for these new style GM trucks. But there definitely are more choices available than a year ago. Bought the new truck in mid January. I was shocked at the limited number of caps available when I started looking. Thanks to this forum and the amazing amount of information provided by the members, I was able to find out far more than I could from either Leer or ARE. My thanks to all of you members, this forum rocks!

Enjoy that great looking truck and cap of yours!

Sorry for delay. Been slammed.

Thanks for the follow up pics! That smooth, curved, rear glass looks awesome.  ARE did a great design look with the entire cap. Beautiful truck and cap combination.

Thanks for all the info. Very detailed which helps out. So it does look like the screws are on the outer edge away from that extra thickness support in the center. That's what I was wondering. I didn't know if they extended the extra thickness all the way to the edge for support of the roof rack system. Very helpful. May add one later to mine.

Yes I removed the words Leer that was right above the handle. The emblems are still on the side just because they are sunk in and don't want the empty indention where they would be. Yesterday I also removed GMC and Sierra off the tailgate.

The eraser wheel was a life saver. Wife says she don’t like it but I like the clean look. Sierra and SLT may be next.

Quick question. No interference with the 4x4 emblem on the side? When I ordered mine the guy at the place seen my X31 badge and said “hopefully there won’t be an issue with that.” It looks close but not hitting? If there is, I can just remove it beforehand. Thanks.

    • Disclosure: BlueV8 is a Supporting Vendor and sells plug-in AFM/DFM disablers.   Before you spend a dime with us — or with anyone — try the AFM disabler GM already built into your truck. It's the shifter, and it's free. ⏱ The 10-second version 🚫 Skip the M5 method if: Most of your miles are highway — M5 locks out 6th gear, so you cruise at higher RPM and burn more fuel You already know you'll forget — it only works if you do it every single drive Your lifters are already ticking — nothing that switches AFM off repairs existing damage You already run a tune or disabler — this would be doing the same job twice ✅ Worth trying if: You want AFM off today, for exactly $0 You want to test-drive V8-only life before buying anything Your driving is mostly town and short trips, where 6th gear barely matters Your truck is leased or under warranty and you won't touch the ECM — this is zero hardware, zero software 💡 The whole trick, in one paragraph Owners across GM forums keep reporting the same pattern: put the transmission in manual / range-select mode, pick M5 or lower, and AFM never activates — the truck stays in V8 the whole drive. Bump it up to M6 and V4 mode comes right back. Two of the cleaner threads on it are here and here. GM has never documented this behavior, so file it under "strong owner consensus," not gospel. The good news: it takes exactly one drive to verify on your own truck. Steps below. What "free" actually costs Effort, every drive. It's a routine, not a setting. Shift to M, tap up to 5, every time you get in. There is no set-and-forget here. 6th gear. When GM shipped trucks with AFM/DFM switched off during the 2021 chip shortage, its own estimate of the penalty was about 1 MPG — and those trucks kept every gear. In M5 you're also giving up overdrive, so expect the highway hit to be bigger than that. Patience. One Tahoe owner ran the L5 routine for two months, then got tired of it and bought a plug-in disabler — he had an extended warranty, so flashing a tune was off the table. That's not a knock on the method. That's just what month two feels like.   I put together the full instructions, limitations, and links to the original owner discussions here: https://www.bluev8.com/blogs/news/how-to-disable-afm-for-free-the-m5-method
    • Disclosure: BlueV8 is a Supporting Vendor and we sell AFM/DFM disablers. We wrote this because not every GM owner actually needs one. In some cases, regular maintenance, towing use, an existing tune, or simply using M5 makes another device unnecessary.   ⏱ The 10-second version 🚫 Skip it if… You keep the oil full and change it every ~5,000 miles. Your risk is already low. You're happy shifting into M5 every drive. That disables AFM for free. Your truck tows heavy most days. AFM barely runs under load. You already run a tune or delete kit. Done is done. It's already ticking or misfiring. You need a mechanic, not a plug-in. ✅ Worth it if… You bought it used and the oil history is a mystery. Checking the dipstick is… not your hobby. (No judgment.) You're a long-term keeper with lots of easy highway miles — exactly when AFM runs most. The V4 drone and shudder drive you nuts.
