Side molding delete

Finally got around to removing the side moldings this weekend, have been wanting to do for a while since I hate chrome and am taking it all off.  May end up replacing with painted moldings, but probably not.  Would you guys debadge? I kind of like the black on silver look w/ badges. 

 

Next up is color match on the door handles, mirror caps, black powder coat on the side steps, and Phil’s HUD retrofit.

Heat gun + fishing line to peel off the fake chrome, and then a 3M eraser wheel to get all the glue off.  Clean the shadows with goo-gone and you’re done.

You can strip and color match paint your removed ones pretty easily as well.

Here is a picture of my 2018 Silverado Texas edition for a reference point. It came with the color matched door handles, mirror covers, and side moldings. I got the 2 week old black side steps off of Craigslist for $200.00. You may be able to score some for yours for less than the cost of powder coating.

 

Since this picture was taken the Texas Edition badges have been removed. I think it looks much better without them. The giant plastic yellow Bow Tie, "LT", and "ADO" have been removed from the tailgate as well. Left the "SILVER" on for now.

 

My truck is filthy right now with pollen but I can take a picture in the morning so you can have an idea what yours would look like without the Texas Edition badges on it if you wold like.

Going to get black window trim at some point. Maybe lose the z71 badges too

Just did the tailgate. May end up putting the gmc logo back on.  Gotta see if it grows on me.

That looks really sharp, haven't seen black wheels and trim on that color red. Definitely black that window trim, on my list as well.  Black Bakflip would look nice on there

Debadged looks good, black emblems may look cool as well if you put them back on.  Truck Emblem Warehouse has a ton of quality options for matte and gloss black if you go that route. 

 

Have you thought about color matching the rear bumper?  Such a good looking red.  Company called Ecoological makes these bumper shells that have held up great for me, paint to match.  Have one on my truck in the original thread pic, had one on my '15 for years.  Still waiting on the front cover for the 2018 to come out, 'on the roadmap' for the last year so hoping they get it together.

i think black badges on a silver truck look deadly!!  i absolutely love that look!!
