Hey guys I am looking into lifting my 2016 Sierra 6.2 8 speed and throwing on 35’s. Before doing so I know it’s highly suggested to do a gear swap especially on 3.23’s. Below is what I was quoted for a gear swap to 4.10’s. I am by no means a gear expect so do you guys think this seems like this is a good price and parts list?

Price seems about right compared to my research for a 9.5 3.08 to 4.10 with true trac swap.

I never looked into the 9.75 rear end (yours), but I would recommend you look into a Truetrac carrier in the rear instead of the Yukon Duragrip (strictly my personal preference based upon reviews, not ownership).

Dont forget a tuner to adjust the computer for the change in gears and tires.

It’s less relevant the more gears you have.

If I was spending $2800 to compensate for bigger tires, I’d much rather spend it on more power.

What exactly is $2800 gonna get you more power wise?  You’re $4k short of a blower and tune. You could Frankenstein some cheap throw together turbo setup but you’d do more harm to the truck then good.  Nitrous??? Lol!!!

i agree with the 8 speed gearing is a little less relevant but I still see the op getting a huge benefit from a gear swap

OP the price seems ok but kinda high. I had the gears swapped in my 17 a couple weeks back for $2250 and found a place as low as $1850. If you haven’t shopped around it might be worth calling a couple other places

I’ve got a lifted 2018 6.2 CrewCab Z71, still running stock 323’s with a SuperChips tune and it hauls ass! Running 20x9’s 34” Nitto Ridge Grapplers

Um FBO?

they make like 100hp

$2800 on gears is just the last mod I’d do.

These aren’t rwd muscle cars with 4l80’s, in which you can throw in one set of gears in the back for a couple hundred bucks and see huge gains. Which is exactly what made them the go-to mod for the guy that knows his shit for the last 60 years.

I can gaurantee doing gears would be one of the last things in the “typical mod list” if in the last 60 years they costed $2800 bucks and had 8 trans ratios at their disposal.

Maybe if the guy is building a seriously hi powered truck, or a serious off-roader, but it doesn’t sound like it.

You gonna answer the guys question or just tell him about your badass truck?

The guy asked a simple question. Does the parts list and price look alright. Where at in his post did he ask for anyone’s advice on whether or not he should do a gear swap or what would you buy if you had $2800?  Maybe I missed it I don’t know.

Read it again, he says “it’s been suggested to him that he rear gears when he lifts” I’ve got the same setup and suggested that it’s not required. If you’d like I can talk about my badass truck but rather help OP save money.

Do the lift first then go from there. There will be far more options available but then will fall on whether or not you’ll be keeping it for extra years then it’s worth it to spend more on it but not if you’ll be getting into a new one. Ive got over $11k on mine so far and should’ve just gone out and bought a Raptor for the amount I’ll end up spending cause believe me, it never ends lol

Funny because I don’t see a suggestion anywhere in your post. All I see is you telling the OP your mods and how fast it is

Let me ask it again. Where did the op ask anybody for financial advice?  Funny you wanna save the op money because when anybody wants anything less than a CST lift you’re the first to jump their shit and tell them they need to spend more money.  You can’t have it both ways TX

these threads wouldn’t keep going south if people would stay on subject

What, are you his mother? Who gives a crap! If you don’t like it should’ve just left it alone but for some reason you feel it necessary to not only have an input on OP but in everyone’s comments. Geez, I wouldn’t even be typing this if you didn’t find it necessary to judge mine and everyones input. IMHO, you’re sending this south not anyone else, we’re all just giving in innocent and personal experiences. Ok, good night and God Bless

The guy keeping tabs on OPs bank account is asking me if I’m his mother. Lol

youre a joke dude.  I get pm’s about you all the time with your CST and Amsoil bullshit.  You just got put in your place and now you’re all butt hurt.

OP I apologize for the forums resident financial advisors sending this off the rails. I’ll refer to my original post. I think gears are a big improvement for you and I think possibly you could do better price wise. All I know is what I paid and what a couple of other shops quoted me. Good luck with whatever you do. Look forward to the results.

OP, highly recommend you hold off on switching your 323’s out till after you do a lift especially because “I’ve actually got a lifted 6.2 with 323’s and can easily be tuned if you notice any slight performance difference which is what I did and LOVE IT! I’m also getting 19-20 mpg with a sport tune at 65mph and 18-19 doing 73-75 mph. I also highly recommend you talk with a gearing expert with lots of experience especially with your 6.2/323’s cause you don’t want to freak out losing mpg’s while not towing.

Speaking of lifts, CST Performance Lifts is something you may want to look at, far superior built lifts with reinforced gussets and full welds as well as excellent powder coating. A CST lift wont widen your track width giving you that wide goofy look requiring you to install controversial rear spacers and doesn’t widen your turning radius either. CST Lift doesn’t take away from your towing capabilities keeping stock towing rating. It’s an option especially if you’re considering keeping your truck cause the suspension is your trucks foundation.

Before this thread turns into another shit-show. I got quoted $2300, out the door for 3.73's from 3.08's by East Coast, in Raleigh. $2800 from a place in Charlotte, NC. Both places told me 4.10's would be close or the same in price. Labor was $100/hr for 9 hrs from East Coast, I don't remember what the labor was for the shop in Charlotte. I think your parts list and prices are comparable, for the different regions. I have the 5.3 with 6 spd and a TVS1900 supercharger. I'll probably get the 3.73's installed this year.

Bottom line; it's your money, do what you want. I don't ask opinions from forums, because I don't really care what everybody else thinks. And you have no way of knowing who REALLY knows what they're talking about. Most people are ass-clowns anyway, me included... So, you do you, and F everyone else.

How do you like your tvs1900 on the 5.3L? Did it really wake it up? What other things needed to be changed in order to install it? ie., intake, throttle body, belt tensioner and so on.
