Fixed my poor MPG?

So I finally sprang for a cold air Intake and need up with a S&B. They make a very nice product and seem to have thought things out well. It has been on the truck just a few days now, but by MPG has gone up considerably. Up to 17 for 400 mile avg combined. After mostly 11-14. Truck is 2015 GMC Sierra 5.3 with 60k.

What was the age of the filter in your old intake? I'm wondering if your filter was clogged with debris, that much improved gas mileage from a new intake is very rare and I think there was another factor at play as well.

Anyways I'm glad your saving gas. Bet it feels nice

My 6.2L lost one MPG with an AFE CAI installed. Even more if you put your foot into it. Chances are if you go up in horsepower, you go the opposite way in economy.

Sheesh. Sounds rich for sure.

I get better Mpg's than that running E85 and gain an extra 25 hp/torque

I wouldn't attribute a 3 mpg and greater improvement in fuel economy to this product but it is good to know you're achieving closer to normal performance! When pulling my travel trailer I can expect between 11-14 mpg depending on my driving habits. Jaxcam02 makes a good point about the possible condition of the old filter. A restricted air flow may have caused the poor performance.

Added a Jet Mass Airflow Sensor today and took it for a quick run. 20 mile loop of mixed city and lower speed (45-50ish) highway got a 21.8 on the Trip B MPG. I know, not definitive, but encouraging.

I wouldn't have spent $250 on a MAF sensor but that's just me.

After doing my own tuning for the last 7+ years, changing a MAF to some "performance" based option wouldn't be on my radar to fix a mpg concern. Faulty or dirty MAF's could reduce mpg.

Your CAI did nothing for your fuel mileage. Period. Neither will a dirty air filter. Max HP, sure...fuel mileage, nope.

So that's cool that you do your own tuning and I didn't pay $250. Otherwise thanks for the input? Maybe? Maybe not?

Yes I will get a tune as I have suspected for a long time that the A/F ratio is fatter than Rosie O'donnel after Golden Corral. I just have a part or two to get first.
