final verdict on my 6.2 valve issue  at 72,000 miles  - Dealer says "lifter spun in lifter guide causing lifter to come apart and chew up camshaft lobe"

Took 3 weeks to get GM parts, and $4K to fix.  GM customer cost assistance paid 25%  -$1,000 - still trying to negotiate with them, but they are like the IRS to deal with.

 

My salesman tried to get on me for driving my Wife's Hyundai to his dealership to check on my truck everyday, until his own service manager talked about a Hyundai with 85,000 miles they had traded for that had an engine issue - and Hyundai replaced the entire engine under warranty.

Not the same architecture, changes in internal design and operation.   Half the AFM cylinders use collapsible lifters and half solid, all the DFMs use all collapsible and it is the solid one

I have a 2021 Chevy trail boss 6.2 with 5500 miles. Was driving home from work and the motor started missing and making all kinds of noise. It’s at the dealer now for a bent pushrod as well.

almost 12k on my mine with quite a bit of towing... I have an 8k lb travel trailer and no issues so far. I hope this is one off issue and not a pattern starting.

I have a 2020 Sierra Denali 1500 with the L87. Bent a pushrod into an S Curve shape at 8,000 miles on April 18. Happened on a road trip when restarted after fueling. Repair requires replacing a high pressure fuel line, which is on backorder. Dealer technician is outstanding and he indicated this is a common problem. Took it to the dealer on April 19 - now might not be repaired until next week.

This is my 3rd 6.2L L87 (previously owned a 2017 & 2018). This is the first engine issue I have experienced.

2021 Sierra Denali 6.2L 11,600 miles (11 months). Driving down road yesterday at 55 on cruise and it started jerking and making noise. Limped about 1 mile to GM dealer and they were able to take it in right away. 2 hrs later they were showing me a bent push rod and putting me in a loaner.  Shock, they had the parts in stock and I should have it back today.

Are they extending your warranty? A push rod doesn’t bend itself. I wouldn’t be concerned about getting it back quickly. I’d be concerned a repeat.

Yea your right, no need to worry about putting an engine in a new 60K vehicle. Usually people who have engine problems early are given the curtesy of an extended warranty. But hey, it’s only about 14K for a new one. Piece of cake.

This thread and many like it are why I want to stay with OHC. I know I can have phasers and chain stretch problems, but damn, not to the tune of 4 k!! That’s ridiculous.

One more time.   2019 Silverado Z-71.   Stupid small back doors and small back seat, AVOID THE SO CALLED DOUBLE CAB, IT SUCKS.    Anyhow, engine 'let go' three times in 10 months.  Lots of push rods and valve at 87,000, again at 97,000 one more time around 108,000.  Plenty of parts, valves, push rods, something about the journal and oil filter full of metal pieces.  GM called me and asked if it was currently running.  When I said 'yes' she said OK and hung up.  GM's phone number in Detroit?   Here you go.....   866.790.5600    They could have gave a ******.

I have been reading about this for 2 days now, what a disaster , ,I just order a AT4 SIERRA LAST WEEK, I kind of want to run back and cancel my order, WTF  happened with chevy they forgot how to build a V8? chevy have always have one of the best v8 engine on the market........ I'm confused......

Was an issue during covid with getting parts from suppliers.  Its the same mechanical design with the same lifter/pushrod design being used since 2007 or so, and you dont hear those ones failing that often if ever.  Lots of parts were produced then just sitting being exposed to all sorts of things in the environment during covid then when they got supplied and used, failures happened.  It sucks, but its also common sense to NOT buy when people are not working and parts have been sitting for long times.

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!
