Like a jilted ex-girlfriend, you keep coming back to read what he has to say and react. "Ignore" isn't just a button, it means you no longer pay attention and certainly don't let him rent that apartment over your eyebrows for free. Let it go, or make up with him, but FFS the dramatic posts have us all rolling our eyes.

Both parties in this peeing for distance competition are good contributors to this forum and usually I enjoy reading their contributions.  They are both well aware how to end their spat but choose to keep it going.  You have noticed that so far one of the participants enjoyed your response even though you weren't really expressing favor over either contestant.  Time (or an empty bladder 🙂 ) will soon bring fresh discussion to this thread.

I definitely favor one contestant over the other. Mostly the guy who can have a rational conversation and not be a preachy jerk to me and not feel compelled to pull out bible verses in responses that rival the length of War and Peace.

Encouraging one and making disparaging comments about the other may not be effective in bringing an end to this conflict....

I treat people how they want to be treated, and a good indicator is how they treat me. Platinum rule.

But, I agree, escalating conflict does little for resolution. What if everyone apologized and started over? I think Grumpy should go first. He's the bigger man, wiser than us, after all. He's told us in no uncertain words.

If he does, I will. @customboss, are you in on this?

I agree everyone should move on and see no need for anyone to apologize. This is an internet forum based on a common interest in GM Trucks.  We all come to share experiences but aren't out to forge relationships.  I suspect it may happen but not here.

  • Elwood P. Dowd: Harvey and I sit in the bars... have a drink or two... play the juke box. And soon the faces of all the other people they turn toward mine and they smile. And they're saying, "We don't know your name, mister, but you're a very nice fella." Harvey and I warm ourselves in all these golden moments. We've entered as strangers - soon we have friends. And they come over... and they sit with us... and they drink with us... and they talk to us. They tell about the big terrible things they've done and the big wonderful things they'll do. Their hopes, and their regrets, and their loves, and their hates. All very large, because nobody ever brings anything small into a bar. And then I introduce them to Harvey... and he's bigger and grander than anything they offer me. And when they leave, they leave impressed. The same people seldom come back; but that's envy, my dear. There's a little bit of envy in the best of us.

Large scale businesses do not extract or produce the best products or services. They leverage the maximum profit.

And you may be saying, well Yea! But truth is, excellence doesn't often fall into the world of business. More in the arena of art or at times in pursuit of a solution to a plaguing problem whose roots don't extend directly into the commercial world but would have welcome application there more often than not.

The bigger issue is that this sort of excellence can't compete well when the primary goal is margin growth. Great materials, excellence in manufacturing, no compromise engineering all cost money. That doesn't imply the inverse is true, if flat out screams it at the top of it's lungs.

Pretty much defining the boutique industries in any flavor you care to name. The difference between these Stefano Borella's shoes at $700 a pair are not the same quality, fit or feel as a $ 90 Sketcher.

When I hear someone claim the inferior _________ (fill in the product) is 'just as good', my skin crawls.

When I hear "No one will pay". I wonder if they bumped there heads.

There is a market for quality products, there are only those telling you you that you don't need it or it won't make a difference. I've owned a dozen pair of Stewart hand made boots and I pay dearly for them. I still buy Sketchers too. But I never make the mistake of thinking one is as good as the other, that I'm wasting my money or I don't deserve that sort of quality in my life.

EVERY product has it's top and bottom and the faction telling you that motor oil is an exception is exceptionally determined to defend that thought. It is indefensible but attempt they will.

Those shoes look uncomfortable, and nowhere near supportive or useful as a mass-produced work boot. I bet they don't last long in demanding environments either. At the end of the day, it's just dead cow and some stitching and maybe a piece of rubber or two.

It's called fit for purpose. Why would you wear a $700 pair of fancy shoes if a pair of boots produced in a factory is what you need to get the job done? Because it makes you feel good that your shoes cost more than everyone else's?

I’ve had three brands of foot wear I’ve used only one I buy consistently. One for work Red Wings. I don’t buy anymore, retired. There’re was no break in. SAS shoes. And finally Sketchers. The last recent ones slip ins. I buy them on sale. I have several I wear for different reasons. I go to a walking track everyday and I have flat feet. They’re comfortable I don’t see any reason to pay more. SAS shoes are comfortable put are twice as much. They’re on par for comfort. I don’t see a reason to pay more.

I also have flat feet and  Sketchers.  For walking comfort and distance, I buy New Balance in the $200 range.  ($150 US)  If you're ever by one of their stores, get fitted and try on a pair of good quality walking/running shoes.  Your Sketchers and SAS shoes are fine for general use but you will be very surprised and happy with your improved performance at the track by treating your feet to this experience.
