Never fails you bring facts. Someone brings cartoons. Or he’s modeling for his Halloween costume. Yea that’s it. I’m still waiting for this million mile vehicle. Family, his. I mean he’s at least 70. Where’s this high mileage stuff. He can’t even get his SUV to 100K without puking oil. He gets his truck close to 200K he buys a new car. At least he’s comical.

I’ve been laughing at him since the beginning. It’s like Wendy’s where’s the meat. First he was a hyper miler. If you drive over 55 you’re evil. Then he kept fixing the oil burner, oops that didn’t work. If you keep them 500K miles you save all this money. He practically rebuilt the burner except for the motor. He says on a hot day he leaves the dog home. They may have to walk. To top it off he buys a brand new car. I wouldn’t even go there. He must joking right? Then he puts people in time out. But not really. Then there’s the cartoons.

It coulda worked a bit earlier if his mechanic wasn’t a moron.

If he went with his own philosophy. There be a new motor in it. He’s done everything else. I have two real nice Hondas for what he paid for that new car. All that’s fine a dandy. But you can’t teach me anything if you don’t follow what you preach.

 Motivation or Will

What motivates you?  To do anything?

The American Heritage Dictionary says of Motivate [transitive verb]:

1. To provide with an incentive to a reason for doing something; impel

2. To cause to be enthusiastic

3. To provide with a motive; to move; impel; induce; incite

Impel, to move. I can work with that.

An interesting synonym for motivate is 'goad'.  A goad or Ox goad is a stick with a sharp spike used to get an ox to go where you want to go. Employers are fond of 'Motivating' employees to a particular behavior. A cattle prod will motivate allot of behaviors.

Problem with motivation is that it is external. Once the reason is removed or in some other way nullified or muted the old behavior resumes. People are motivated by what they see as a benefit to them.

Will, now that is a much different creature. Will is internal. Etymology suggest will is from "(the) Want of Heart".

Will draws you Motivation prods you

Mom made you eat your greens but she couldn't keep you out of the cookie jar. 😉

People use motivation because it is easy, it is direct and it is immediate. But will is hard to understand in another. Take time to develop if it isn't naturally occurring but it sticks once it does. Motivation is LAZY.

People that only follow the speed limit when there is cop around are MOTIVATED to do so. People that follow the speed limit because they have a love for order, safety and of their fellow humans are drawn by the safety, order and love of life to do so. It is the Want of Heart [appealing nature] that draws them to the law and they willingly subject themselves to it.

From the outside, it looks the same. But if you are patient, people will reveal if what they do is externally driven,  temporary and subject to change or an internal will of force, an appreciation and love for a thing that is unshakable. A heart of Will can stand alone and will find its "like". Those motivated pack like wolves and rarely survive on their own when confronted with Will. Those motivated become confused with a person of will. They can't be embarrassed, humiliated, shamed or driven otherwise from there path.

One thing I know about that first group is that it will hate the second until it either receives a different "goading" or has a change of 'heart'. Minds are easy, a heart is tough.

I'm not God, I can't read a heart but I can observe behaviors and I can test them and have repeatedly only to find those I ignore "In want of heart".  I don't get along well with the "What's in it for me" crowd and don't miss it.

Let's back away from the personal comments. People aren't coming here to read that kind of stuff.

There is stuff to be said about all of y'all that ain't complimentary. So lets check it a bit

Thank you for this reminder.  All of us have good to share.  Let's focus on what is useful and be respectful.   We can always private message a forum member if  looking for a more personal relationship.

I like a little spice. Ever notice the turn over here. There’s only so much oil stuff that can be interesting. The more personal stuff and the joke thread makes it interesting. There’s really only one person that kicks it off when being disagreed with. Then some of us just can’t help it. Guilty as charged. Reminds me of NASCAR. I started watching it for the cars. Then the personality’s. Let’s face it they’re not stock cars anymore. I bought my first satellite dish to get NASCAR and MTV. I haven’t watched MTV for many years. If it wasn’t for Kyle Bush I’d probably quit watching NASCAR after February 2001. Playoffs in NASCAR? There’s a new youngster in NASCAR that’s making it interesting. Enthusiast are a different breed. When someone gets sideways we tend to stir it up. I definitely don’t come here for oil changes. I’ll tell you a secret. People who get the most miles out of their vehicles. Are highway drivers.

My my, what a ruckus. I leave for a few days and the kids are drawing on the walls with crayons again.

Did I even mention that I like cats and dogs more than people? A cat does not judge you on your worst day. A dog loves in spite of them.

Perfection is a demand of those incapable of perfection and those so inclined are incapable of seeing the hubris in that.

I've made mistakes. I've changed my mind. Those two things are hardwired into progress. I like progress. So I don't mind making either mistakes or changing my mind. Fact is, it would be pretty stupid to not learn from a mistake.

The primary difference between mine and my haters mistakes is I set my up in NEON so others don't repeat them. Ya never hear of a haters failures and they've made a bunch of them.

Dizzy was more than a mistake. It was a perfect storm of mistakes. Lessons learned from that continuing nightmare have prevented the repeat in a half dozen other machines which are excelling BECAUSE of that experience

Really, how bad is it? A 300K mile failure? Twice as far as 'Team Hate" will trust a vehicle they've "expertly maintained".

We all enjoy banter.    I enjoy hearing from you and all of the regular contributors to this thread but I've yet to see a moderator caution over "banter".  When  anyone casts aspersions towards you or a friend, the least effective retort is to return the same.  Sometimes a sharp personal return punch can be cathartic but short lived. An informed, positive response will be far more successful in supporting your point of view.   Txab's cautions don't follow posts infused with banter

I’m mean really. Did you read his last post. Calling people haters because they rather have two vehicles at the same cost. As he spends on one. With half the mileage. We probably shouldn’t point out the obvious.
