Sunglass Holder

Tray on top of the dash or in the console. If you have a console organizer they won’t get messed up.

Couldn't fit any of my glasses in the overhead storage of my 2016. Believe that compartment was redesigned in 17 or 18 to help fit bigger glasses, but I could see why it was done away with on these trucks.

Mine don't fit either and they aren't even enormous shades.

This Silverado is the first vehicle that I've ever been in (above and beyond "owned") that couldn't hold a fairly normal sized pair of shades in the sunglass compartment.

Obviously never tried an F150. Can't fit crap in there either.

Picked up my 19 RST Z71 yesterday and I'm liking most of the changes/upgrades from my 16 z71 LT... but man was my mind blown when I reached up to put my glasses away. Like what in the heck made them remove such a simple, but convenient feature that's been around since the 90's? Am I missing something here?

I couldn't believe it myself when I took delivery of my RST and realized after the fact that there was no sunglass compartment to be found.

There is plenty of room in the center headliner area if you do not have a sunroof (the motor would take up the open space).

Designed my own sunglass cubby as a solid model, printed the bezel and cubby, along with a trim template, and made my own.

I had posted the process a while back here on this forum.

Here are a few pics of the unit.

Yeah this drives me crazy. I switch between prescription clear and sunglasses. Could not find a good place for them in my bench seat setup. Ended up buying a little console storage thing to go on the floor under the center stack, and the glasses case goes in there. Overall love the 19 over my old 17, but very disappointed in GM on a few points including this one.

I have found that features that once were considered options have increasingly been added to the standard features list.  A base truck today would be a considered a  fully loaded truck a few decades ago ;-)   Audio, Power Steering, Power brakes,  Automatic Transmissions, Air Conditioning, Cloth seating, etc. were all once costly options.   Popular demand, or lack of,  often dictates changes.  It once was common to see auto manufacturers brag about the number of ashtrays found in their vehicles!  I am not discounting that there is a demand for eyeglass holders, ashtrays or lighted vanity mirrors but I personally wouldn't give their absence a second thought.  I suspect that a high importance placed on sunglass holders was not shared by enough people to warrant their inclusion in the new model.  I doubt it is a case of GM being cheap.  If it helped to significantly increase sales, it would be included.

cigs are bad for your health. people are coming around to this. sunglasses are good for your eyes. this isn't changing. I don't think your point is apples to apples.

Sorry my point was missed.  It certainly had nothing to do with healthy choices!  I wear glasses and often switch to my prescription sunglasses. My regular glasses have transition lenses as I am very sensitive to eye care.  I keep my change of glasses in a hard zippered glasses case that provides full protection for the pair I am not wearing.  I can slip the case in any of the compartments in the truck and take it with me for use outside of the truck.I appreciate that many people find the above glasses holder useful but perhaps too many  (like me) find it unnecessary.

fair point, thanks for clarifying. The cynic in me believes it's just cost cutting though.

I think it's a great deal. GM did us all a bonus by deleting a bunch of creature-comforts, while only increasing the MSRP of the new truck by $10,000...

The new automaker's motto holds true, build them cheaper and charge 15% more, every generation.

I have found that the standard "creature comforts" increase with each new generation of trucks.  They are not necessarily enough to justify the increase in cost but there are many other factors that influence pricing.  In 1986 we bought a GMC Suburban with every available option.  My current six cylinder basic '15 SLE is better equipped with comforts, safety features and power.  My 'Suburban was half the price of my current SLE.  However, I had essentially the same job in '15 as in '86 with over triple the salary.

Well I traded my 15SLT for a 19SLT and was also going what the what!! I actually used the sunglasses holder for napkins in my 15 because I am also a neat freak when it comes to my truck.  Also they removed storage on the doors and the cup holders are not removable to be cleaned.  Love the room in the truck though.  They also removed the ability to have text read to me while driving.. GM dont give and then take away?

Why didn’t you keep the 15? Did you sit in/test drive the 19 before buying?
