2018 Silverado 6.0 or 6.2

Hey all, new to the forum and the only place I saw this topic was from 4 years ago. Looking to get a truck to pull my snowmobile trailer and 2 sleds. It’s a 16’ enclosed trailer and loaded up weighs probably 4500#s. I’m only towing probably 10 times a year, but it is a lot of uphill. I really like the 6.2, but the lower stance of the 1500 isn’t as appealing. I know I could lift it, but I’d rather keep it stock. Love the look of the 2500 and would go with the gasser. Can’t afford the diesel. Any thoughts on what would work for what I’m pulling? Or it is really just a matter of preference and what you like to look at?

6.2 much better mpg, easily handles that weight, and is a rocket.  6.0 will last longer than you do and some poor bastard will be towing 10k getting crappy mpg with it in the year 2057.

get the 2500 if you think you might want a bigger travel trailer one day or just want something that will last forever.  get the 6.2 otherwise.

In my option get the 1500 with the 6.2 and use the saved money on a suspension and wheels. It will make you the most happy and at that trailer weight never a issue.

and i have a 2016 2500HD with a 6.0!  but i don't kid myself about the fuel economy or power.  i just wanted something basic that would handle anything i could throw at it for as long as i wanted to throw it.

This

6.0 gasser will haul that load up 8% grade with the pedal to the floor for however long you want it to, and it will stop it as well. That’s why I bought one.

If the OP is using this truck as a daily though, we all know the HD gets terrible mpgs.lol

i reccomend a pre-direct injection truck with low miles , ease of tuning, lower price, lower price on parts and maintnance. try hemmings or ebay motors look for a 2011-2014  2500 with the 6.0, the trannys shift perfectly stock too, much better than the modern trucks. the new trucks look prettier inside and out, thats about all they have going for them.

I was in your same situation and went with the 6.2. I couldn’t be happier with my decision. When I purchased, I was towning my quads around but now I have a RZR. It tows great from Phoenix to Flagstaff(almost a 6000’ climb). Probably about 5500-6000lbs in total with all my camping supplies. I hook up the trailer and go camping once a month.

I test drove some HDs, including Duramaxes, they were really just not for me. Being my daily driver, I wanted something that was a bit lighter on its feet.

Purchased new about 18mo ago and have almost 40k mi on it now. You won’t be disappointed.

In considering mpg also be aware of the price of regular vs premium. It’s not unusual here to see gas 50+cents a gallon more expensive for 91-93 vs 87. If you were driving a sports car that’d be one thing but I think at this point I’d be pulling my hair out filling up a truck at that price.

5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 will all pull your load with no issue.

You need to decide if you want a 1500 or 2500 platform. Seems to me you want the 2500. If so then 6.0 is for you.

Are the 6.0's really that slow? I've read that in other posts. Also, I am planning on upgrading my trailer to a bigger one in a couple of years when my son is old enough to get on a snowmobile. It won't be my daily driver, so as much as i hate the sound of 10mpg, I'm really not all that worried about it.

Personally I don’t think it’s as slow as everyone makes it out to be. It’s not a race truck though either. You also have to consider it weighs a lot more than a 1500. Funny thing is I get identical fuel mileage towing as my 1500 with 5.3 and it does it much better.

If you're ok with 10 mpg's, the 2500 is for you.

It's a 7,100 lbs truck in stock form, it's not going to be quick, nimble, or fast, but will pull all day up hill, and need less of a rest then you.

Get one with nice trim and packages, and enjoy a nice comfortable, old fashion interior.

I can bluetooth, and navigate in my truck, so not so primitive, and run with traffic, so not so slooooow, as people say.

If it ever has a catastrophic problem, there's a million engines and tranny's in the junk yards, along with ac compressors, radiators, axles, on and on.

A 4.3 can be added to the list.  I regularly pull a similar weight with mine without issue.  I agree with you that Op would probably be happier with a 2500 especially if it is not his daily driver.

You're absolutely right.  Not being a V6 guy I sometimes tend to overlook them.
