Purchasing a New 2018 Silverado

Hey all, so I’ve been in the market for a truck for a couple of years now specifically a Chevy 1500. But due to priorities I purchased a home last year and this year I’m getting married in the fall. My soon to be wife is iffy on me purchasing a new truck at the moment due to the price obviously and our budget. However we are in need of another vehicle especially a truck. After doing my research I see the 2019’s are the only ones out there, until today. I found a New 2018 Silvarado Lt Crew Cab 4x4 All star with the black 22 inch wheels(I don’t care for). The truck is at a dealership a good 150 miles away and online the price reads $51k MSRP. Now my question is, what do you guys think I can get for this? I’m trying to convince my fiancé to allow me to take the leap now as it’s the last one out there and if I could get a good price then I’m sure she’ll approve. I’m looking for advice on negotiating and what questions to ask. Thanks!

PS, I apologize if I’m on the wrong section. Today’s my first real post!

$51k for that truck is insane. Chevy is still making this body style for 2019 as the Silverado LD. That truck should sell for at least $10k under sticker.

The sale prices surely isn't MSRP. Can you post the trucks sales ad on here?

It doesn't even have a factory brake controller so it must be missing a few decent other options too.

I'd say 34-37k before taxes for something like that is what I'm used to seeing. Hell a brand new 2019 LT truck from the dealer a few miles away are around 35-37k before taxes.

Wiesner in Conroe TX has 19s SLEs in the 30s, SLTs in the low 40s. If I was in the market I would wait till September when the real deals start.

I’m not naive about it. I also was shocked. Last year the 2018s were around 46-48k MSRP. I’ve seen the LD’s but they only come in a double cab. I’ve got kids so that won’t work.

That’s the auto trader ad. I also saw it has no parking assist, trailer brake, lower or raise steps. Also not even a Z71. I got a reply back from their internet sales manager for an e-sale price of $45k. I replied saying that for that much I could get a 2019 LT trail boss fully loaded.

Thats the thing too, I’m not sure when the deals start. I’m in California.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Granted mine is not that edition.  Mine is the basic of basic and a Work Truck package 2018 GMC Sierra 4x4 Crew Cab!  I purchased mine for $29K.  Bought it just over 2 months ago new.

There is no way in this world I would pay close to 45K for last year's model this late in the game!  If you're into all the loaded out stuff in a truck then by all means go for it.  But to me, a truck is a truck and as long as it's 4WD and has AC, I'm good.  I'm simple.  I also have kiddos and that's why I purchased my Crew Cab.

I'd pass on that truck at $45K for sure.  But that's just my opinion.

This will be my first truck. I’ve only owned cars in the past. So I love the little features, turn knobs for the 4 wheel drive selector, dual climate zone as my fiancé is always complaining on how cold we keep the car, wireless charger is not necessary but again this is the only 2018 out there near me at least. That’s why I’m asking for advice on how to negotiate the price in my favor. For my house my realtor did the work, now it’s my turn.

You should be able to get that truck for around $36,000

$15 off a now two years old truck

( even though it's new) is not a stretch at all.

I got a reply back from their Internet Sales Director.

Hey Daniel, I'm the Internet Director here and I could do 45 even plus fees, yes I know you can get a new trail boss cheaper-but I have no programs or rebates on this. Im 4200 under cost or invoice on this truck. I will sell it, we go thru this ever year.

Greg can try his luck getting full price for an old truck.  Greg is trying to get you nervous about "losing out".  Greg can't even spell.  If you don't reply, Bill (the evening internet sales director who does things differently) will email you saying he can do something that Greg can't.

No offense, but if you're on a budget, don't even look at a new truck.  Get a slightly used truck for half the price and, if CPO, a better/longer warranty than a new one.  Save the rest because that house is going to need it.

This is actually the second person to email me. The first person “Dee” has not replied to me since earlier this afternoon (1PM for me). I honestly doubt they’re selling that truck for 50k.

I appreciate the advise. But used trucks in my area cost about the same as a brand new one. For instance a 2016 used Lt same specs is about 35k and it has 30k+ miles. My whole idea is for this specific truck. If it’s not meant to be then so be it. But I don’t want to say that I didn’t try. I’m not on a tight budget but I don’t want to get screwed which is what my fiancé is worried about.

$35k is a lot better than $45k, and 70k miles of warranty is better than 60k.  I'd be all over the used 2016 LT... oh wait, I am... bought my '16 CC LT for $24k with warranty until 2022.  When you get the '18 under $40k, then it starts looking better.

Obviously if I can’t get what I want I’ll explore other options. But look at what you said you paid $24k. I would definitely be all over that as well, but you can’t find that here. My point is I’m looking at a 2018 for 45k not a 2019 and I wanted to see what I could say or do to negotiate it down. Congrats on your used you got a good deal.

you can argue the price on the 2018s they arent the same body as the 2019s and they need to clear the lot.

i got my 2018 SLE Sierra Texas Edition fully loaded only 2wd crew cab in december of last year. list price was 51k i got it discounted to 37k.

you might find a slightly used 2015-2017ish for about 30k why pay 30k for used when you can get new for 37-40kish unless that 7 k makes a difference over  the 5/6yrs

That’s my point.

    • This is a really late reply but I just found this thread. They won't sell the hinges. I've gone 7 rounds with them. Their solution is to buy a new cover. I'm about to buy a new cover and it won't be a Bakflip. It also won't be from realtruck.com.
    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
