Purchasing a New 2018 Silverado

I tell guys every time who are in the middle of huge financial leaps (house, marriage, or new job)....dont ever buy a new truck.

half of them do it anyway and they all end up regretting it

read up on dave ramsey and make sure you and your new wife follow his baby steps plan.  Your priority is entering into a serious relationship with your wife and getting out of debt together.  Pre-wedding plans will be stupid stressful so honestly I would wait quite a while before buying something like that.

Think of it like this, how would you like before the big day your wife takes out a $50,000 loan on something unnecessary?   You dont NEED a 2018 crew cab truck,  its a want.   Besides, those mini beds are worthless anyway ?

My 2018 SLT was 55k and i paid 41K in march. I recommend getting it over the F150. Solid. A real V8 and better interior. Can't compare to a '19.. but you will be happy with an 18.

Don't be throwing in common sense into this irrational decision!  This is a forum to discuss how much we waste money on our trucks!!!!

Wedding is 90% paid. And to be honest we make pretty good money. Not enough to pay a vehicle off cash but enough where another 800 a month payment won’t leave us in debt we’ll still be able to do the things we want.

She works from home and I’m an Officer. We only have one car. But here’s the thing there’s times where I’m on call and I have to leave my vehicle at the office for one or several days. So she’s stuck without a vehicle. We do need another car. We have a family so a truck is great, to go to the mountains, snow, dirt, river. Plus we haul a lot of stuff. Anyways... if it’s doable I wouldn’t mind if she took out such a huge loan. A want is a Sierra AT4 or a diesel.

My opinion for what its worth....if you cant pay it in cash you cant afford it.   Im not saying people are out of their minds putting cars on loans but cars are not investments,   Buying a luxury truck in the midst of a huge life change is unnecessarily going to cause stress!  Ive pretty much given up on the idea of ever owning a new truck because I just don't have enough $$$.

Anyway if you can afford it and you would really value it plus make you happy, its not a terrible idea.   I mean my wife yells at me for putting $ into a 2002 so sometimes you never win lol

Why dont you just find a 19 with similar features AND rebates. Here in MN a truck like that is easily 10k-12k off sticker right now to start clearing the lots for the 20's Theres another sucker out there for that salesman to sell that truck.

And, if its 150 miles away, and you considering it already, why not broaden your serach a bit more and look outside a ways of CA to save even more. Dealers in OR, NV, NM might be better options??? When I'm looking, I search a 500 mile radius, and my last truck got shipped in from MI to get the diesel i wanted at over 8k off sticker.

I’ve never purchased anything out of state and stepping into unfamiliar water is a little uneasy for me. But you are right I’ve seen some in Las Vegas for decent prices.

I agree with "greatmizzou" for you to listen to Dave Ramsey.  He's on Triumph Sirius XM.  Listen to him for a week with your partner and you'll come up with the right choice.  I also suggest strongly that you make decisions like this together.  Avoid words like "allow".  This word at the wrong time can and will cause catastrophic engine failure! ?

I’ve never heard of him but I’ll take a listen when I can, thanks!

Well she really doesn’t want to get involved same how I don’t want to get involved with the wedding planning lol. But from the post and the dealership it seems like this truck will be a no go.

Dealers can trade for trucks from other lots if they have a good reputation.

Are you working with anyone from the lot, or any near you?

Make a friend with a salesperson/manager, have them do a dealer locate, and see if they will "horse-trade" for the truck you want.

You think that will work on a left over 18? Since manufacturer rebates atent an option anymore, this might be a longshot, or am i wrong on that?

Probably a long shot, but he will not know the answer unless he asks the questions.

They need to move old stock, dealerships has been paying interest on them for a long time now, he might find a motivated "seller".

I love letting other folks lose $25k instantly and then buying the truck from them. Every time I do, I can afford another piece of land! Keep buying them new trucks, Daddy is bolstering his retirement plans!

You know I didn’t even think of this. I can try messaging my local dealer and see what they can do. Thank you.
