System Upgrade

I recently purchased a 2019 GMC Sierra SLT.  I am going to be doing an upgrade on the sound system by adding an amp and sub.  It currently has a Bose system, but could use a little more low bass.

I'm slowly gathering the components as I research the the truck because I am doing the installation.

In all of my research I have yet to discover the location of the Bose amplifier as I will have to tap into the signal wires for the 6x9 subs located in the front doors.

My 03 Silverado Bose system had an amplifier located under the center console.

I've been told behind the seat, and in the dash on my 2019.

I want to know for certain before I start tearing into my truck.

I was going to drop almost $3K into the JL audio system, 1000 Slash V3 Amp, harnessed into the factory DSP..

But a friend told me the kicker system is for the dollar, the way to go.

200 class D amp

10 inch woofer

plug and play install with instructions.

Adding a bass  knob to the system for $30 dramatically improves your ability to "dial in sub" to your liking by now being able to adjust the gain on the fly.

For $550 im very happy. It bumps plenty hard...  and trust me i like bass, i love having 2 10 inch W7s in the back of my suv... but this system is a good buy for the price.. i was impressed.

I had considered the Kicker upgrade initially, but decided to put a few more bucks in it to personalize it into my own build.

Currently,  I have 2 10" JL 10w3v3 4 ohm subs, a custom speaker box that fits the length under my rear seat, and a 1/0 RF amplifier power kit.

I am going to add also a Memphis VIV1100.1 amp with a wireless bass knob.

I don't mind dumping 2K in a truck that cost me 50K+.

I just like to gather as much information as I can before I dive head first into a project.

I have almost finished my system upgrade and found that the Bose amp on my 2019 GMC Sierra is located behind the back seat next to my truck's power inverter.

Removing the back seat is a learning experience since it doesn't fold down.

There’s directions on how to remove the back seat on YouTube. It’s not too hard by the looks of it.

Let us know how the Bose speakers keep up with 2 W3’s. My single W3 is enough for me and I’m wanting to upgrade the rest of the system to round it out. There’s not many options yet for integration with the stock head unit though so I’m waiting.

I went with the JL Audio Stealth Box, fits perfectly under the seat.  It made a huge difference in and hits very hard and has no distortion.  It comes with 2-12" down firing subs and I went with the 1000w amp.  My friend has the kicker installed and even he will tell you, the sub sound on mine hits way more then his...no comparison at all.  It's definitely more money going with JL Audio..... good luck

It has been the longest install to date.  I have encountered problems like shearing off 2 ground lug bolts.  My amp kit did not include enough power or ground wire.  I used the wavetech link 2 line converter and could not maintain power to it, so I had to add a Irad programmable voltage variance turn on switch to keep power going to my line converter, thus supplying a remote turn on switch for amp.

My amp and subs are a bit much for this upgrade.  The subs hit way too hard and after adjusting for clipping, I have my gain on amp set incredibly low.

Tomorrow is another day and I think I can reach my final goal with some meticulous tweaking.

I have included a few pictures of the build for reference.

Okay, the install is complete.  The IRAD by Wavetech is really cool, but like other line converters had problem cutting off due to drops in voltage.

I ended up taking out the IRAD and having a relay tied into my BCM in order to maintain a constant power source when my vehicle was switched on.

The other Bose speakers really struggle to keep up with the 500w rms JL subs.

Overall,  my upgrade was a success.  I am happy.
