According to GM, they are not plug and play on the 2019's.  The harness is different no matter what trim level.  They will bolt on, but that is just about it.  Gamboa is supposedly working on a harness adapter to allow the 2020 towing mirrors to work on the 2019's.  I guess time will tell.  I'm sure he is waiting on getting the mirrors so he can start working on the harness.

Wonder if it’s because they have turn signals in them? Either way, really no good reason for GM to do that besides to give the middle finger to the 2019 buyers. I’m sure these mirrors were in development from the start and it wouldn’t have taken much effort to have them backwards compatible/ plug and play ready.

They could sell them as an 2019-compatible accessory at an exorbitant price for what they are, and some people would still buy them and pay good labor at the dealer. What do I know, though...

This is printed in the install instructions for the 2020 mirrors:

ALL trucks require new door harnesses.
Note: The Camper mirrors can only be placed on vehicles that have DLF factory mirrors without Task Lamps (U12) and without Lane
Change Alert (UKC). The camper mirrors will NOT function on a vehicle originally built with factory built DEN or DEZ mirrors.

I was told by the dealer they would have cameras on them as the build sheet still had all of the surround view and the “trailer less view”. So I ordered the truck with the tow mirrors - if it doesn’t well I won’t be buying that truck. Should be getting mine in the next 2 weeks so I’ll let you know what I find out!

Any word on the surround view with tow mirrors? I just bought a 2020 with technology/360 cameras and would like to add tow mirrors at some point.

I can confirm my tow mirrors that i ordered with my truck have everything. Cameras are built into the arms and barely noticeable.

One thing that is being debated (just noticed): dimming mirrors. The website says they are but I don’t see that they are. Will have to fight that out with the dealer.

That’s good news about the cameras! Sucks about the dimming parts.

Please let us know if you come across part numbers for the tow mirrors with cameras. You should make the dealer give you a P/N for them so you can verify that they’re dimming.

From October.  Has the #s for all items:

Those numbers are for tow mirrors without cameras or lane assist/blind spot.

You can order a truck with tow mirrors with cameras and with the lane assist, so there has to be a part number out there for them.

I'd be happy if I could find tow mirror extensions that were made for my 2019.  All I can find so far are universal fit extensions, and that ain't happening on my truck.

I put the 2020 tow mirrors on my 2019 LT. Every function I had works, adjustable mirror, temp, and defrosters. The lights on the fronts and the LED lights integrated into the mirror do not.

kind of annoying, but I can finally see my race car trailer when I’m backing up so I’m happy about that.

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
