20' tire suggestions

Hey guys. New here. Bought my Silverado a year ago January, preowned from a dealer. Its got milestar tires that are on it  - so I'm in the market for a new set. I've searched over and over and cant seem to what I'm looking for, so I'm here so I'm looking for input. 

Current tire size is 275/55R20 and I'm looking for a set that's gonna offer me more traction, not completely kill gas mileage and offer decent wear. I do about 275 miles a weekend going to Maine, occasionally face snowy conditions. I'm also looking for a set that's gonna be good for the sand/beaches (I fish alot)

I don't have a problem with going to a 275/60/20 tire either. I assume a bit more sidewall would help in the traction department. 

Also would like to keep ride quality and noise similar to what the truck is at now - I assume tire load rating/construction and pattern will effect this. 

I'm asking alot I know, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone has gotten a set, that their happy with that didn't change a ton of characteristics. The trucks got a 1.5" level in it. 

I'm tossing up a set of BFG KO2's, General Grabber ATX, or Nitto ridge grappler (or terra grapplers)

If an aggressive look is what you want those work.  Otherwise the Michelin LTX MS2's or known today as the Michelin Defenders are a great highway tire.  Last a long time, quiet, great traction up to some light snow. Not sure on the sand but you air down anyway for that kind of off road riding.

Another +1 on the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S. Thats whats on my truck in the same stock size as yours. Living in in western PA, they have been great. They've trudged through everything Pittsburgh has thrown at me since last August and they drive nice at all speeds and all roads I have been on. I did have all 4 replaced under warranty from Cooper at 8K miles because I had some weird wear on one tire. I'm at 2k on that replacement set. Cooper took care of me so no ding on them from me!

 

If I ever do decide to go to an LT tire for whatever reason the Cooper Discoverer XLT's and General Grabber ATX are on the short list. Right now I'm about 98% on road and 2% dirt/gravel road. And I think that 2% has happened only once (maybe twice) in the year+ I've owned my truck.

So you don't want to kill gas mileage and want the ride and noise to be close to stock yet you list those 3 tires as a top choice? All 3 will do the exact opposite of what you are looking for. It sounds like you want a cool looking tire...

 

I have the Generals, good tire no doubt but as they wore they got louder. Even though I off road probably more than most I am over the aggressive tire, I want the one that does good off road and on road. All three of those tires will be louder, ride worse and knock mpg. Look for a tire you can get in a P rating, pretty sure the BFG's and Nitto's you can't. The reasons I originally choose the Generals was they were available as P rated, had the deepest tread (16/32) and much lower price than the BFG and less susceptible to hydro planning. They have been a great tire but my next tire will be the Cooper AT3 4s which sounds right up your alley. Deep tread, available in P, made in the US, excellent road manners as well as snow rated and just a great tire off road too. It's predecessor won the expedition portal AT tire test. Probably the biggest knock many had where the old tire look like a street tire from the side, the new 4s gives it a better looking sidewall. If prie isn't a consideration (most expensive doesn't always mean best) you can look at the new Bridgestone dueler revo AT2 or Michelin AT2. Not sure if either of those are snow rated though

 

Good luck with your choices but you may want to step down to a less aggressive tire as looks aren't everything and big voids get old on the road, especially as they wear...

Intresting to find out people are happy with the Coopers. My father loves his set, but I wasnt sold on the tread pattern being aggressive enough for snow or offroad use. 

 

AMX, Some very valid points. All of those i know will hurt MPG, road noise and and ride worse than the car tires the truck has on it now. Valid point on the LT vs P tire. I dont intend to pull a heavy load trailer (maybe a dual axle car trailer once in a while, so I'm not sure i need the LT tire.

 

I looked at the Bridgestone Revo's but from what I've heard, the vertical lines in a tire also cause more noise as they wear (Trapping in air as it rotates) creating more sound so I wanted to avoid them. And yes, ofcourse I want a more aggressive looking tire.  Im usually a name brand snob which is why I suggested BFG, General and Nitto. 

Hows the tire noise on the Generals?  I would be ok with "mild" noise and a mgp or two reduction to gain better traction. My neighbor has general MT and hes running at 13MPG highway on a 3" lift. I know i dont want that!

I just put on a set of ProComp AT Sports and they’re great. Quiet and they got a 60k mile warranty.
