I don't know.  Didn't they change the max tow from 3.73 to 3.42 when they went from 6 spd to 8 spd?   I am not arguing but I believe increased gears may have an impact.  Hopefully our resident experts will speak up ?

I agree with what you are saying, but if you look at the chart, capacities are the same for 6 & 8 speed, and for the 3.42 & 3.73.

5.3LV8 3.08 2903kg (6,400lb) 5443kg (12,000lb) 5.3LV8, 6-speed automatic transmission 3.42 4264kg (9,400lb) 6804kg (15,000lb) 5.3LV8, 8-speed automatic transmission 3.42 4218kg (9,300lb) 6804kg (15,000lb) 5.3LV8, 8-speed automatic transmission with Enhanced Towing Package 3.42 4990kg (11,000lb) 7575kg (16,700lb) 5.3LV8 3.73 4990kg (11,000lb) 7575kg (16

Weird I have the 5.3l 6speed and I want to say 3.08 gear maybe wrong gear. Anyways I pull a 2 axle with a car and a golf cart tools and generator no issue and it has to be more then 6,000. I wouldn't think twice about 10,000.

For OP: While it's been answered here's a snip from some pdf I saved off awhile ago.

Sidenote: I like small light hybrid trailers since I'm still sleeping in a tent I get to feel like I'm camping and I can still fit in little camping spots and not have to be in the RV section. Hybrid's are not for everyone obviously but there's bennies, just as an example if I didn't have my center mirror I could easily forget the one in my sig is behind my truck (my tow cap is 9100 and that is 3500 loaded).

Edit to add: pic is for 2018's

Although it's not the news I hoped for, I believe I have accurate information now. I'll start looking for a 5,120 (6,400 X 80%) GVWR travel trailer. Just last weekend I had the folks at a local RV dealer try to sell me trailers with up to 5,800lbs dry weight.  I wonder how long my transmission would have held up in the Texas summer heat pulling those weights?

Thanks everyone for your input.

I think you're right to look in the 4-5K dry weight range but your truck would manage a 6k dry trailer.  I don't know your specific preferences but you can buy a comfortable family trailer within the 4-5k dry range.  Perhaps starting a discussion in the trailering section of this forum will get you some first hand experiences from those of us who have shared your trailer buying challenges!

Wife and I looked at this one about a month ago .

In your weight range and I thought it was a lot of trailer for the money.

Not sure where you are at but this is just Northwest of Minneapolis. RV World.
