In the end from looking on the internet and other forums, the easiest and best way to upgrade is using the 12v outlet. So I bought a new one that can do allot more amps. So we will see how it works when I get it.

If your phone is taking a long time to charge, it's ready to be replaced.

It isn't the phone. It's the amount of current being sent into the phone and the amount of energy being consumed. I found this thread because I'm attempting to do the same thing.

So far what I've found is there are replacements that have a socket made to replace a cigarette lighter but still maintain full functionality including data transfer.

However I'd prefer to use the usb socket inside the console. But the search continues.

I did consider the wireless charging route. However I'm concerned about the fact that it will be getting a direct charge combined with the wireless charge. It seems like it could potentially cause damage.

Try using a cable from Apple for an iPhone. And i second the flipping of the lightening connector. Most of the aftermarket connectors that advertise fast charging allow fast charging on one side and high speed data transfer on the other.

Did anyone ever figure this out? I think the OP wanted to upgrade what already is installed so it looks like factory installed but up to standards for this century. A couple other guys here sounded like they wanted to do the same thing. I have researched it a bit. Amazon sells different circuit boards that are USB to 12-24V or just 12-24V to 5V and up to 5A. I bought a few and tested them cause lots of Chinese stuff has made up numbers for the specs. I'm fixing to deconstruct my port assembly to see what I can fit in there to improve it without losing any factory capacity. The only thing that it has though is data transfer, which is slow as ****** anyway. That's another topic though.

If someone finds this old thread ill drop my $.02 opinion...

I don't believe USB will be up gradable. The USB port itself is integrated in the infotainment system hardware. The plug in the armrest is just a long extension cable.

At this date of power saving newer phones i cannot see needing more USB power for a phone. I use iphone14 with waze in 3 different vehicles and no USB charging issues.

I have seen some cellular slobs though that have BUNCHES of data hog apps running in the background constantly updating and pinging data burning battery and shocked the battery struggles. Additionally if the cell signal is weak while traveling the phone uses massive power as it struggles banging multi cell towers to function.

Close all apps and disable wifi, reboot the phone then only run waze see if it helps? Save power navigating get a standalone GPS module and connect to phone over BT. Phone uses a lot of power triangulating location from cell towers if it has no internal GPS module. Garmin GLO and DUAL make modules size of a cigarette lighter and can navigate with zero cell signal thru the phone to infotainment screen. GL
