Non powered tailgate

So I just picked up a 2020 RST.  After two dealer visits , both of my sales people claimed the tailgate unlock on the key fob would drop it.  I did not happen at either one and both claimed the grade the truck was sitting on caused it not to fall.  I believed them.  Now at home with the new truck on a level grade it just pops about a inch and you have to nudge it down.  Do I have a problem, or did they just feed me BS?

Mine was the same. I opened and shut it 20 times and now it opens when I push the button. Unless I’m on a grade. I think it’s new and things are just tight at first.

I've had my RST since last March and haven't had trouble yet using the dash button, tailgate button or remote. Do you have a tonneau? Try a good spray.

Thanks I'll give it a try.

Mine was tight too. But I didn’t know the remote would open it. Something else I’ll have to check out!

I have had my truck for over 2 months now and the only time it actually worked was the night I went to look at in on the dealer lot. I thought the slight grade on my driveway was the issue but also noticed it doesn't work when at Home Depot on level ground. Its a great idea but.. For what it is worth I'm in Canada and the temperature is at near or below freezing since I bought it. I have to get into the dealer soon to have some recalls completed and I will ask them to have a look.

Yeah I searched, didn't see anything.  Are you thinking of this post you already commented on?

Yes sir my bad sorry. There is something else out there but the search on here is terrible. If I come across it I'll post the link.

Try flushing the hinges out with a lighter spray like wd-40. Mine never worked either until I sprayed it. I think they use a white lithium grease from the factory, but it turns to glue in the cold. Ive had no more issues for a while now. -30 this a.m.

Seems you have a problem.

I'm calling total Bull$hit on the zero angle explanation. Seems to defy physics but using the pitch/yaw gauge in the DIC my tailgate will still autodrop with the nose pointed downward at a 4 degree angle. Thought it might be some pressure from the tonneau cover's rear seal, so tried it with the tonneau folded, nothing touching the back of the gate, and it will still autodrop with a 4 degree down angle (maybe even more but a fence was in the way of going further downward)

And the gate doesn't slam down either- viewed with the camera as it did a normal soft drop.

my 2019 New body style kinda hangs but that's more because of the box cover. I did have a issue that with my hands full and wife asking me to unlock the doors  I reached in my other other pocket and pressed my door locks twice to open all doors but didn't work, did it again and it worked . put stuff in back seat , and took off. something just didn't sound or feel right and turn on camera and my tail was down, I must have pushed the wrong buttons at first and it didn't fall.  happy all my tools were not in there at the time. Be nice if they had tailgate down light.

For 2020, chev 1500 has 5 tailgates

QT2    Tailgate, gate function manual, no EZ Lift

QT3    Tailgate, gate function manual with EZ Lift

A60    Tailgate, locking, utilizes same key as ignition and door

QT5    Tailgate, gate function manual with EZ Lift, includes power lock and release

QT6    Tailgate, gate function power up/down with power lock and release

RST has the QT5 as standard

Would seem that if it falls open after release would depend on adjustments, binding, truck angle and so on.

(I have no idea if it's supposed to fall open, or if salespeople noticed that some do and decided that is a'feature')

I have more than one trailer with a non-folding jack that can be hit by the tailgate if the gate is fully down.  I like to use the fob unlock.  Sometimes I use the unlock and support the tailgate partly open to access something under the cover.

I was happy when tailgate locks became a thing, and happier when the locks became fob operated.

I would NOT want a tailgate that also fell open.

If it's not releasing, then it needs repair.

I'm not convinced that gm intended 'fall open'  to be a 'feature' (but won't be all that surprised if I'm wrong)

So for whatever reason the last 10 times I've tried, it falls every time.   I did slam it a few times, so maybe that helped.  I watched a couple dealership reviews of the Silverado and everyone of them showed it as a feature dropping by itself. So fixed for now I guess.
