Yes, returning to the old normal doesn't solve anything unless science has found  a replacement to social/physical distancing, restricting travel and increased cleaning practices.  There are many strategies to establish a "new normal" which is doing something.  I believe most of us give more credence to health professionals than politicians and will exercise safe practices until science has smashed this scourge.

...and, the federal government does not project a "suspected" vaccine until Dec 2020.  Return to normal has to gap the area between now and Dec.  Ok...

We’ll probably have to do it ourselves like we normally do. It’s called herd immunity. It’s been establish that the numbers are off. Even Dr. Birx has said that. She estimates over 25 percent. Some people like numbers though, the worst the better. I bet the numbers people will really like the Thursday numbers. The unemployment ones. According to them, they don’t matter.

I agree with that or else you wouldn't see most folks wearing a face cover.  If I had to make a "new normal" choice, distancing would be more important.  A face covering doesn't matter as much in wide open spaces or on the other side of the room.

Unless you're in charge of hiring or firing, doesn't matter to any of us.  But regardless of the affiliation, all of us care.

So unemployment figures are flawless? No axe grinding going on? Like when they don't count those that gave up during the 2008 recession? Those ACCURATE numbers? How about I say they are 25% under reported. That carry weight? You pick and choose your experts to suit your cause. Funny that.

She is dropping hard.....What you all going to talk about next month?  Background will be there always....it's a new strain/friend that is not going to disappear.  Careful about getting that first Vac shot sailors.....

NY does not have enough money to sustain police, hospitals, firefighters, schools, and foodbanks, what do you cut first to compensate?  Sorry Ithan, schools will probably be the first ones on the block to go.  I would cut all the power to Wall Street first to see what that generates.

I never got the flu shot. I learned some new things I never thought of in germ transmission. I imagine with all the new procedures with opening up even the flu will be less this season. It will be nice getting back to those important threads. You know when to change the oil, at what time. How about those mufflers. I’m really miss those oil analysts threads. Kidding aside normalcies will be nice.

Google has recently added charts for each county showing the new case 'curve' for last 60 days. 

 

Brazil, one of the counties that is in the 'let her rip' mode is now #3 world wide for number of cases. #6 in the number of deaths and remember....they are just getting started. Russia is now #2 in confirmed but way down the list on dead. Also late to the party. Later than Brazil. Oddly a northern hemisphere county. Not funny! Give a look in 14 days. 

 

World chart I keep on that data that was flat has taken off again gaining a bit more than 300 cases day over day with a positive acceleration. Currently 4,500 per day above the 80-K per day previous plateau. 

 

911 changed the way the world does things forever. This will too.

They were short before, as with most blue states. Here’s an idea, open up and collect taxes. I’m short many bucks from my vacation condo rentals in Myrtle beach. I have a rainy day fund. It’s called preparing. With the density in New York there’s only one excuse for their problem, waste.

I never got the shot either and yes I guess I'm becoming a bit of a germaphobe. Makes sense that other diseases transmitted in like manor would respond favorably to these new procedures. At least for those that follow them. I've nearly washed the hide right off my mittens. 

 

Been thinking about dropping an oil thread firecracker and see if anyone is awake.

Red or blue, right now blue is raising the flag.  It will happen to red.  Is your answer the same for a red state?

      Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose

      I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose

      The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.

      Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
