Electronic Rust Control

So the dealer tried to upsell the electronic rust control (among the tire guard and apperence protection)

 

Up hear where we use a lot of salt and brine on the roads I have used a oil undercoating on my vehicles for years, I am a firm believer that it works. But this electronic module they put on I have done a bit of research and from what I hear it is as good as oil underspraying. But for an extra $50 a month over 72 months. I think that is a little pricy.

 

So my question is who has this electronic module on their truck and does it work?

 

And where can I get it aftermarket.?

Plenty available for sale on Amazon.com. Probably works as well as the ultrasonic repellers to keep rats from chewing the wiring and the magnets you put on the gas line to get better gas mileage. Instead of using the keyboard to pose a question, try surfing the Internet. They do work on boats which use the water to close the circuit, might work if you plan to launch your truck along with the boat.

And there lies the issue I have surfed the internet and I read the articles like your first one of an oil based rustproofing company commenting on an electronic rust proofing like it is the competition and flat out saying it doesn't work. Is that the truth? possibly, But it can also be a marketing ploy. The internet is full of it. 

I have also read a few articles that I have come across in the past ( that I don't have access to right now) that suggested other wise and I WAS sceptical. That is why I posed the question to real truck owners that might have some experience with them. But after a quick surf of the internet.

And there lies the issue I have surfed the internet and I read the articles like your first one of an oil based rustproofing company commenting on an electronic rust proofing like it is the competition and flat out saying it doesn't work. Is that the truth? possibly, But it can also be a marketing ploy. The internet is full of it.

I promise you 100% that electric rust proofing works as good as if you went to a wizard and cast a rust proofing spell on your truck

in all fairness that also included tire guard (replaces flat tires no questions asked), Apperance guard that will fix any scratches or dents I get, and some other roadside assistance on top of the typical roadside assistance already offered. As soon as the price came up I could set that money aside each month and if I did all those repairs once, I would not spend all that $$ over the 72 months. I agree I cant believe people get sucked into it.

All that extra stuff is pure profit for the dealer. Like a fee to add nitrogen to your tires....... Dont pay a penny for any of it. And the appearance guard...... a dent repair may cost you a hundred bucks for dentless repair. AAA is like $50 for the year. Dont do it man. Snake oil. If a dealership is selling anything besides the vehicle, there is a reason for it...... it benefits them.

I figured as much. Just like anything else they sell in the service dept. The Chevy racing jackets. The bar stools with the chevy racing logo, etc. overpriced big time.

Yeah, when you get in the finance office it's all profit.  My guy seemed a little mad I did take one extra at all they offered. Too bad. 

 

On another note, they had some fancy electronic board (replacing contracts) to present all that stuff.  Guess it makes it easier to just check a box with a electronic pen then actually sign for it.

Yep. They get pissy. Right when the guy pulled out the entire page of upcharges, i told him i would save his time and that im not interested in any of it. He gave me a dirty look and said he had to tell me about it anyway. He gave an entire diatribe over everything and made it seem like im an idiot for not taking it. I  want to say i had a similar paint protection package offered upwards of 3000. Get bent.

I work on aircraft, the whole nitrogen is BS. It would only matter if you car is going from 70 degrees to minus 60.  My last Honda I bought the dealer added $125 for it, I would not pay a dime.  I told him they can deflate each one and I'll fill them back up with my compressor, haha.

Don’t pay much attention to him. He very rarely contributes anything but negativity to the board. I’ve learned to tune him out just like I’m sure many others have as well.

I see the error of my ways......You should definitely go for it, and $50/month is really not so great as to be a financial burden considering the alternative.
