I have a 2019 LT Z71 Texas Edition with the 5.3L in it.  

 

So far I have done mostly small cosmetic things to the ride.  Like the illuminating bow tie, black vinyl stickers on the bow ties in the steering wheel and wheels, etc.  

 

I do have a Black Widow Venom 250 Muffler installed.

 

I just ordered the JLT catch can today and I kind of have the itch to do something else to the ride.  

 

Debating on buying this but I'm so indecisive lol.

Either that or maybe add the fog lights to the truck.  But Ehh, not sure any of these two mods will make much of a difference.

I agree! They don't claim HP numbers, but what they do claim is air flow and air restriction. They "minimize air restriction and flows 51.69% better than stock."

The GM's air intake is rated at 13% air restriction.  So in theory the S & B is 4 times better than the Gm intake. So it probably makes 8 to 10 HP compared to GM's 2 that they claim if you take it from the performance package. 

When I put it on my 2018, I could truly feel the difference, and the sound was amazing. 

I can't wait for mine on my 2019, and the price is fantastic for the product you are getting. I don't believe even the RotoFab flows that much air and the S & B is $170 cheaper!!  You won't be disappointed.

Yep, I already pulled the trigger on this lol.  S&B CAI comes on monday.  Wohoo!!

Ops! The Holland tunnel would flow more air yet on a test bench as a stand alone. Thing is, the motor doesn't. If this were not so then 4X more air = 4X more power not 8 hp at peak rpm at WOT. A place you visit about what? Once a year? The OEM is a CAI. On the road it will be within 2 or 3 F of ambient. In town it doesn't matter. What you buy with a CAI is noise. If you like noise then great. There are cheaper ways to get noise than a CAI.

For what it’s worth, I saw two different people on the FB group complain about loss of throttle response with the S&B intake. Safe to assume it’s pulling timing with the stock tune, but what they feel may just be perceived.


What isn’t just perceived is the “check engine air filter” message people get in the DIC with these “open” type intakes.

Well I already have an exhaust, and the noise does sound sweet.  Next up, turbo whistle in the exhaust! lol JK

I've read and seen lots of videos that say the throttle response is improved with the S&B.  Also may just be placebo effect but ehh either way.  I could always change it out if I'm not happy with it.  

 

Not really worried about any messages in the DIC, I know it's recommended to turn off the air filter life indicator as it won't be accurate.  Could always drop a chunk of change and get a tune :D.

All you have to do is turn off the air filter life indicator. Very simple. The S&B has a plexi-glass cover so you can see the filter condition without having to open the whole thing up.

Can anyone elaborate on the difference between the difference between S&B Cold Air Intake with Dry Extendable Filter VS. the one with the oiled cotton filter?

I went with the dry one, IMO it really doesn't matter that much.  Oiled filter technically filters more but is more maintenance I think.  I've never had an oiled one so I figured dry would be the way to go with me.

After looking more into this thread, I don’t want any error messages to pop up about “check air filter” etc. also I want the air filter indicator to be accurate. Are there any direct swap CAIs that don’t affect any of these electronics?

I also have the dry one. The oiled ones can mess up the mass air flow sensor if not oiled properly.

 

@Grumpy Bear......that's your opinion, but I have had one of these and it makes a huge difference. Do you want to know how? Well, after racing my stepdads ecoboost, I gained a half a truck length, so you can take your ambient temperatures along with your stock air intake and grab a bowl of porridge and maybe you will be HappyBear!

Also with these CAI, you must unplug the battery for 2 1/2 hours and then shut off the filter light on dash, and you won't have any problems!

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
