Just wanted to put this out there just for other people to be aware of and look into.

I bought a 2020 Silverado 1500 LT Z71. About 2 weeks after getting it, I noticed that the wheels and tires weren't very "off-road worthy". Since I had the Z71 and knew it was supposed to come with better tires, I looked into it.

It turned out that my truck had the standard 17" wheels and General Grabbers on it. When the Z71 package is supposed to include 18" wheels and Goodyear Wrangler Trailrunner ATs.

I reached out to my dealer and they said that's how it was supposed to be. So I had to do my own digging and went to their lot to find another Z71 to take pictures of the correct wheels and tires. Then I also checked my wheel/tire sticker on the inside of my door and it verified that the wrong wheels and tires were installed. So finally after sending all the information and proof and bringing the truck into the dealership, they admitted that they were the incorrect wheels and tires.

And now....FINALLY after 2 months, I got the correct set installed. (also got upgraded to Duratrac's ?).

They said this was an issue at the factory. But I have a hard time believing that. It seems more like someone wanted better wheels and tires on their truck and they just swapped it hoping no one would notice. Anyways....just be aware of this and go check your truck. Check your build sheet, the tire sticker and verify that to what is on your truck.

You answered your own question, it did not leave the factory with the wrong wheels.

Happens more than you would think, most do not pay attention. How are they going to comp you for catching them in a lie.

A sales guy probably promised his customer the wheels that came on your truck and swapped them out in the back of the dealership thinking no one would notice. As the other guy mentioned, any GM dealer can give you a build sheet. Just give them your VIN and they can pull it from GM global which is like a little portal they have access to for all things GM. Some sales people can't close a deal to save their lives so they promise things they shouldn't and do shady things to fulfill those promises.

I too have a similar problem. Although My 2020 RST/Z71 came with 18" wheels it has HT (Goodyear Fortitude HT) tires. I went round & round with the dealership and they refused to address the issue. They even at one point had me bring it into service saying they were going to replace the tires. Then they called me later and said, they were not going to and the tires were proper and it was how the truck came from the factory.

It shows All-Terrain (AT) tires on my sticker and twice on my build sheet (once as a stand-alone RPO code and once as part of the Z71 package RPO code).

What makes it worse is I have purchased 4 brand new Chevys from this dealership in the last 2 years, I currently own a 2019 Equinox, 2020 Camaro and 2020 Silverado. All purchased from the same dealership. I told them to make it right or they wouldn't see me, or my money, ever again.

Apparently they don't care.

I opened a case with GM but it appears that too is a waste of time.

Good thing I have no brand loyalty, I will simply buy from another manufacturer in the future.

Wow, interesting.

I checked my build sheet, it says "All Terrain" tires but I clearly left the lot (20 months ago) with Goodyear Fortitude HT.....probably too late now :dunno:

I sent an email to my dealership with pictures of the build sheet, window sticker, door sticker, RPO QR code readout.......they all say "All Terrain"

Will see what they reply back with.......

The Goodyear Fortitude HT might be considered an “All-Terrain”. I think they leave it kinda ambiguous on purpose. The Z71’s have usually come with Wrangler Trailrunner AT’s but it’s possible they could have switched to The Fortitude HT’s.

My truck was a bit of a different story. It clearly had the wrong wheels and tires.
I had a 255/70/17 when it was supposed to be 265/65/18 as marked on the door sticker.

If you guys have the correct 18” wheels and the tire spec matches your door sticker, it’s possible that the Fortitude HT’s are just their idea of an All-Terrain tire now.

Your observation about the Fortitude HT being considered by GM to an AT may be true. However, it defies logic and common belief. By virtue of it's branding, a Fortitude HT is a Highway Terrain tire, not an All-Terrain tire. I would be willing to bet if someone went to a parts department at Chevy dealership tomorrow and asked what type of tire a Fortitude HT is, they would say a highway tire. Or better yet, told them they wanted an All-Terrain tire, the parts person would not suggest a Fortitude HT.

Logic and common belief holds that an All-Terrain tire is branded as an A/T tire, not an H/T tire. If GM says a 6 cylinder engine is an 8 cylinder engine, does that make it true? No it doesn't. Nor does saying an H/T tire is an A/T tire make that true.

This description of the Fortitude HT is consistent with how most people (including Tire Rack) would classify this tire: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Wrangler Fortitude HT&partnum=665TR8WFHTOWL

So if GM, or anyone for that matter, is claiming an H/T tire is an A/T tire is it ignorance, incompetence or deceit?

Yes, your situation is different and that's why I said in my original post I had a 'similar" issue.

From Tire Rack:

The Wrangler Fortitude HT is Goodyear's premium Highway All-Season tire developed for pickup truck, crossover and sport utility vehicle drivers with long to-do and want-to-do lists. Wrangler Fortitude HT tires are designed to blend ride comfort and long wear with all-season traction in dry, wet and wintry driving conditions, even in light snow.

Definitely not an All Terrain

I actually took copies of all those documents to my dealership and initially they agreed the tires were wrong. They even had me bring it in to have the tires changed to an A/T and then changed their mind and had me come pick it back up. This is why I opened a complaint with GM but it seems DOA also.

I suspect over the next 3 years my 3 Chevys will be gone and I will have vehicles of another manufacturer.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

The Goodyear Fortitude is the tire that the Z71 package claims to be an AT tire. I too questioned the dealer and he said that was what they came with. I bought another set of take off rims and mounted Duratracs on them to run in the winter and then switch back to the Fortitudes for summer use so I don't have a problem with it. I do however think that it is deceitful for GM to say they are upgrading the tires to an AT tire when one adds the Z71 package. The Fortitude is by no means an All Terrain tire although they are marked as mud and snow on sidewall, go figure.

Yeah that must have changed recently then. Or maybe it’s a region specific thing.

Z71, at least here in Texas, has been a Wrangler Trailrunner AT.

Yep.  Dealer switched.

They will reply back with "correct tire".  In the P265/65R18 GM uses the Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude HT as the "all terrain" tire option.  The non AT tire in that size they use is the Michelin Energy Saver AS.  Blame EPA/CAFE fuel economy for the poor AT offering on the high volume trucks and 18" wheels.  Trail Boss and LTZ get more aggressive AT tires as they are lower volume.  Want a more aggressive AT tire?  Sell your takeoffs and buy whatever tire you'd like.

Here is the list of OE tires 265/65R18 they use for 2019-2021 and their respective RPO codes:

QDF - Tires, 265/65R18SL all-season, blackwall

XCK Tires, 265/65R18SL all-terrain, blackwall

QDS Tires, 265/65R18SL all-terrain, white outlined letter
