Looking to upgrade the exhaust on my '21 AT4 6.2L. I had a Borla cat back on my '15, but what they're charging now doesn't seem worth it for a better exhaust tone and minimal hp gain. Was thinking about a muffler swap to a Borla Pro XS. Anyone done this? Planned to leave the flapper and resonators,, but was wondering about drone too.  Also part #? I've seen some using 40359 on their '20s, but its a 3" and Borla says the '21 6.2L is 3.5".  Not sure what to make of it cause all they seemed interested in was upselling a cat back.

Thoughts?

I do not have the XS but I know some members put it on here and enjoyed it, personally it wasn't near loud enough so I was not interested in it.  I went with the ATAK, but its loud so you need to like that note.

Drone wise you will get some with all Borlas, but it varies, and what you do with the flappers will also dampen the impact of the drone.  Some members kept both in, some removed 1 (usually the downward flapper) or like me, removed both.  From what I've heard leaving both in will have large impact on drone, but also impacts exhaust tone.  I removed both, I love it, but do experience a little drone but only at certain speeds otherwise very little impact.  If I was to offer advice generally from what I've noticed many members suggest who do not get full catbacks, it appears removing the forward flapper is the way to go.  If you want loud, then remove both.  Hope that helps

Thanks for the info.  I had the stock muffler deleted yesterday and it is definitely too loud for my particular taste.  I left the flapper ('21 only has one before the muffler) and resonators.  Ordered the XS and hope to have it installed early next week.  Looking for mostly quiet, just want to know its a V8 when I get in it.  Hopefully it does the trick!

If the delete was too loud, then the XS should do the trick for you.  From what I've heard of clips (not the same as real life of course) it should provide you with what your after, nothing obnoxious, good at idle and cruise and gives just a hint of the V8 when you on it.  Should work out well for your needs!

Any updates after getting the XS installed? I had a loaner truck (Ram 1500) for the last couple of days and the exhaust sounds way better than my stock 2020 AT4 6.2l. I have been researching muffler options, but can't really tell the difference between them all online. I don't want anything crazy loud, but would love to hear it when I want...

I've had it installed for about a week and a half.  There is a drone on the highway, but after hearing the drone with a muffler delete, it's not bad at all.  Little more growl on cold start than stock, same at idle.  Sounds a little louder than stock on acceleration in the cab.  Haven't got to hear it outside the truck under acceleration or just revving.  All in all, I'm happy with it.  I do wish it was a little louder, but I could probably spend a year testing different mufflers.  If I ever do change again it will be to a cat-back.  That way I can go a little louder without increasing the drone.

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
