anyone else struggling with "stone chips" (actually bug chips, it has never been off of the 4 lane highway...)? from 2 thousand miles to now 17 thousand miles it has really need showing more and more chips on hood and grill area....I have 10 times more now than I had on the truck I traded with 180k miles (2008 Avalanche)? it is a 2020 Silverado RST...

Ya the paint really seems soft on them and the interior plastic is still easily scuffed, not real impressed

Honestly?  Unless something major happens, will be the last I have.  Piss poor paint, new engine at 3500 miles, interior leaves a ton to be desired (including what Grover said... tons of scuffs).

 

My first BRAND new vehicle has been decent but for 60k, I'd expect a bit more

Yes, my front bumper is peppered with chips, drives me crazy, I have a couple on the edge of the hood too but the bumper is far worse.

I pretty much expected this to be the case. With that in mind my truck hasn't seen a freeway yet at 970+ miles. My PPF guy couldn't get me in until next Monday. It's not cheap but I think it'll be worth it with all this paint on the front end.

I should have used a PPF guy....but didn't envision I would have to until it was already a mess...

PPF, stone guards on the corners of the box. Mud flaps. Tubular step bar and.....stay off the guy in front of you. Mine is 7 years old now and the body paint has a handful of small easy to repair chips. The front bumper however I did not PPF and that is a mess. It will be replaced and filmed. 

 

99.99% of all her 145,000 miles are on paved two and four lane roads. FWIW the paint chips because it is HARD not soft. Stupid hard, brittle. But that makes it easy to repair and polish. IMHO.

That is why I hate painted steel bumpers. On top of the look being plain it requires an expensive clear bra to protect it. Chrome has none of those issues with more durability. Painted plastic I leave alone as it is softer and less prone to chipping but the hood being metal has a small clear bra strip on mine. Paint on all manufacturers is less durable than it has been in the past couple of decades, just the nature of it with the switch in types of paints and complying with other environmental and government regulations. I will keep my chrome bumpers any day of the week for both looks and the toughness. 

 

I see painted steel bumpers rock chipped up on all brands, it isn't just GM.

I would add to this the 'chrome' today is not the chrome of the 50/60's nor is the underlying steel grade nor thickness. They just don't do 'triple plate' anymore. Not OEM anyway. PVD is not nearly as durable and 'foil' chrome is a joke. BUT if I could get a 60's..... nice read

Isn't your truck a V6?  How do you expect to get rock chips when you're so far behind a bicyclist could beat you?  Also, aren't you in the wrong subforum?  T1 trucks haven't been around for 7 years.

I just got a quote for PPF two days ago and was ready to have it put on the bumper hood and fender extensions (RST).

 

im already at almost 7000 miles and the bumper is too far gone already there’s no point.

The worst I’ve had so far is my Camry. The very first trip noticeable chips. The worst ever. I’ve spent my life driving lots of miles, HWY miles. So usually I make a template to cover unpainted areas in the front. Spray with matching paint. I've gotten pretty good over the years. Now I don’t care about it as much. Fortunately the Avalanche doesn’t seem to have the chipping problem, the wife’s Genesis doesn’t either. The trip car, CRV I don’t care.
