GMC keeps sending me emails reminding me to buy the new Map update - $50 off and free shipping.

I don't use the onboard nav all that often, usually use Android Auto/Google Maps.

Has anybody done the update? Anything that makes it worth spending $99 for infrequent use?

My dad bought an upgrade once for his Suburban.  It was right before going on a long trip.  It was still obsolete.  Stick with Google Maps, or better yet, Waze.  Those are updated on the fly.

I have a 2019 Sierra as well. I haven't received any notification for update. GMC does have my email as I get other mail from them.

Agree with WAZE. I use it on long runs. I'm retired USAF.

Two things I don’t use on my vehicles. The navigation and radio. I use my iPhone. I’ve never get in a traffic jam with WAZ. That’s saying something traveling interstate 10 from Houston to the east coast. Well I do use the radio as a sound system.

My experience with several over the years is that its mostly all POI's (points of interest) which are such things as new motels, rests, gas stations etc.  The first car I had with Nav was a 2009 Cadillac and I found a road name error on it. They same error is still there on my 2021 even though I made an attempt back in 2009ish to advise them of the error.  So unless you are traveling a lot and motels, rest and places to spend money are of interest, its a waste of $ and time for the upgrade.

Google bought Waze years ago.  Already incorporated the best features of Waze into Google Maps.
