Does My 2020 Silverado Have An Alarm?

Hello.  I got a 2020 silverado 1500 and im not sure if it has a security system or not.  There is no blinking light on the dash.  My 2019 has a blinking light on the dash and when you open the door with a key the alarm goes off.  Does my 2020 not have a security system?

If your car has a factory alarm system it will trigger (make a noise, such as the horn sounding) if a door (and sometimes the bonnet or boot) is opened. Usually this can be tested by opening a window and locking the car with the factory remote. Wait for a minute then unlock the car manually from inside and open the door. The alarm should sound.

Thanks.  Definitely no alarm goes off.  Will a gm dealership install it?  Or should I go aftermarket?

What trim level do you have?

 

Have you gone into the radio setting to set up the horn sounding when you lock it?

Sounds like WT trim?  I thought that came on everything.  To the OP, I have a blinking light on my 2020's dash

There is a 2020 LT and another 2020 WT.  Funny thing is the WT seems like it has more features than the LT .  No blinking light on either. But my 2018 and 2019 have blinking lights.

For what it's worth, the light is only visible if you're looking for it... in the dark.  That said, from Chevy's page for the LT:

Yes my LT is missing alot of those features.  Main thing i want is for an alarm to go off if someone opens the door.

Personally if you know for fact it does not have factory alarm I would go aftermarket.   Especially if it does not have remote start either, you can get some with pretty crazy range nowadays.   Mine has 3km range but I only went with an after market starter even though it had factory remote start cause I need the range for work.

On my 2021 its listed as UTJ- Theft-Deterrent System on the build sheet.

Order guide info for 2020 1500 silverado:

 

UTJ	Theft-deterrent system, unauthorized entry 1 - Included and only available with (PCX) Custom Convenience Package. 2 - Included and only available with (PCL) Convenience Package or (B59) Remote Start Package.

 

Shows Not available on WT.

1 is for the 'Silverado Custom'  and 'Sliverado Custom Trailboss' 

2 is for LT

RST, LT Trailboss, LTZ and High Countrry UTJ was standard.

 

 

 

For 2021 and for current production of 2022 'Silverado 1500 LTD'

UTJ	Theft-deterrent system, unauthorized entry

 

Not available on WT, standard on all other trims

You can buy a fob on ebay and have your dealer flash the BCM to get your remote start working.

Did you try the window down alarm test?

Check the codes on the sticker inside your glove box it should tell you what is ACTUALLY on the truck.

I would not add any alarms or remote starters to a new truck, I have a partnership in a used car dealership thus we buy hundreds of cars annually those with aftermarket stereos, alarms and gizmo add ons inherently have more issues than those that don't.

Just my 2 cents some will want to argue but splicing up your factory harness is a bad move.

Thanks. Im going to call the dealer and see how much they are going to rip me off.  Wasnt an issue before but i have switch from parking my trucks at home to outdoor storage so i am doing everything i can to prevent theft. I usually hate aftermarket stuff. Although back in the day i had an aftermarket 2 way remote start  with all the bells and whistles and it was the ******.  I just have tons of fobs and dont want any more.
