I have had my truck about 2 weeks.  Today I had a notification come on my screen that said my Nav system would quit working in a couple of weeks unless I chose a subscription plan for Onstar.  Is this correct.  On my last car, my nav continued to work, it just did not update maps and traffic without a subscription.  I thought (assumed) this would be the same.  If this is not the case, it really sucks that I paid for Nav and it does nothing without ongoing 'pay to play' program.

Yes, I know I can use Android Auto and/or Carplay.

On my 2021 you only need a subscription for traffic etc. The navigation works just fine. I can't imagine a 22 (that's really a 21) is any different. The actual updated 22s haven't hit the streets/dealer lots yet.

I've had my 2021 since 9/10/2021 and every time I drive it, I get that reminder to sign up for nav service. Anyone know how to get it to stop (other than signing up)?

same as Jay stated still works, reeseb If I remember I had to go into settings and turn off notifications for services I did not want.

If you pay for the full onstar package there is an available turn-by-turn navigation that onstar can/will provide.  This is different from the built-in nav.

Built in nav will still function -- but not everybody has the built in system.

Another alternative is to use phone based guidance through AA or CP.

Or go old school.

There are 2 different NAV systems in these trucks. The built in factory NAV. You should have a SD card in the console where the maps are read off of. Or GM offered a system that you have to subscribe to and it works through Onstar. If you have the built in version Onstar offers weather and traffic for the 1 month trial then you have to pay for the continued service. The maps and NAV still work fine.

You're not completely accurate on this.  I've had my truck since July 2020.  Yes, there are 2 navigations for these trucks.  Both work with Onstar.  All lower trim trucks came with a navigation system that didn't use an on screen map.  You could contact Onstar and have them send the turn by turn instructions to your truck, but there's no map.  This navigation has been changed to Chevrolet Maps+.  This update provides a typographical map.  You can ask it to give you driving instructions, but I have found it doesn't trinkets a lot of addresses.

The 2nd navigation system utilizes the SD card reader in the center console, uses a map on the screen, and was only available on LTZ and High Country trucks.  OnStar will also send turn by turn instructions to this navigation system, and you'll see it on the map, too.  This navigation system where live traffic, etc are displayed on the map via Onstar is this one.

Both navigation systems provide the same turn by turn instructions on the DIC, too.

I think I'm in a rather unique situation here where I have both (Maps+ and SD card) navigation systems in my truck.  I added the SD card based navigation system to my truck via MVI.  I prefer the SD card nav over both the old turn by turn instructions and the newer Chevrolet Maps+.  I have the top Onstar subscription and get the full benefits of traffic, school zone reminders, and so much more.  The only thing Chevrolet Maps+ gives me over the SD card nav is the speed limit of the road I'm on.  I have noticed Chevrolet Maps+ isn't always accurate on this, and the solution for this is the same as the SD card nav -- eyes on the road and paying attention to signage and speed, duh.  The SD card nav also allows split screen view on the radio so I can see the map/turn instructions and the radio/phone controls.  Chevrolet Maps+ doesn't allow split screen.

Sorry for the rambling long post.  Just wanted to be thorough.

The built-in system can give verbal instructions without using onstar -- just like a portable aftermarket one can.

Type in the address (or search for an select a destination) and then follow the map and verbal instructions available  -- just like the aftermarket ones...

The SD card based factory navigation in the LTZ and High Country can also receive verbal commands.  Push the talk button on the steering wheel and say something like, "take me to [address]".  It'll them search for the address and ask if it's the correct address.  If in the same city it automatically looks for that address in the city.  If the address is in another city you'll need to specify city and state.  You then say, "Yes" and it'll start the route guidance.  If you have destinations saved in your address book in the nav system, such as HOME, just say, "Take me home" and it'll do it immediately without address verification.  I haven't found an aftermarket unit that does these things, but I also haven't been looking for about a decade.

Good thing I don't use any of those systems. I type it in my phone and it tells me turn by turn where to go. I got my truck about a year after a road near my house was changed. It still shows me off road on the new section with the built in NAV. After a year it should have already been updated one would think.

If you are using the built in NAV with the SD card you would need to get an updated maps SD card if you want them to update. https://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/home/en_US/GMNA/USD

I understand that. The road was changed 1 year BEFORE I bought my truck. Yet the NAV in my truck still shows the old road. I don't have to pay for my phone maps.

I got this beat.  The house I'm in was built back in the 50s or 60s.  The road hasn't changed since being created.  GM Nav tells me to turn onto the street.  The street is a loop with an island in the middle and 8 houses on the perimeter.  One way in and out.  Once I turn into the street it tells me the address is in an unpaved area and drive with caution offroad.  However, it marks exactly where my house is.  Google Maps gets it right, though.  I prefer the GM Nav system because the connection for Google Maps is only a good as the connecting to the phone and radio.  I bought my truck in Virginia.  2 weeks later I'm driving cross country to my new home in California.  Some highways were bumpy and I'd lose the connection.  After a few times I said, "F it!" and referred to Rand McNally.

$100 is half of what it was a decade ago.  Also, MVI says the SD cards are VIN specific.  That website doesn't ask for a VIN.  Only year, make, and model.  Is MVI full of **it?

Nothing is better than Waze. I use it even if I know where I’m going. It’s gotten me around more jams than I can count. And it’s free.
