When every you buy an aftermarket product that you could have bought through GM. You can’t blame them for not supporting the product. There’s got to be fine print somewhere explaining that. When every I did hand held tunes I’d pull them before going to the dealer, same difference. If I added something I couldn’t pull or remove it didn’t go back to the dealer for any reason. The remedies may be with the aftermarket purchase. I’d check the fine print first. There may be a unhook or uninstall warning.

None of this is GM's fault.  YOU had an aftermarket sourced program installed into your radio.  GM can't do anything to restore an AFTERMARKET program, even if its "GM" software.

You took it in for an issue.  They reprogrammed the modules to the latest FACTORY calibration.  The truck was built WITHOUT NAV, so that is what goes back in.

Sucks to be you.

This.

Factory Nav is garbage anyhow.  Maps or Waze is so much better, why would you pay for the Nav?

I had too many issues with Android Auto, such as playing my music on my phone and the cable being disconnected.  Drove from Virginia to California dealing with it, and decided I was done with it.  I've really enjoyed having factory nav.

That's definitely annoying, especially since you paid for the software, but I'm not surprised that the update they installed overrode software changes that were made after the truck was sold. The VIN for your truck probably specifies the non-navigation software version so that's what they installed. Seeing how the GM head units can also do over the air updates, it's possible this may happen again even after restoring your navigation software for that reason.

Anecdotally, we also have a '19 Mini Countryman that didn't come with Apple CarPlay. The only way to get it that model year was to get the $2,500 factory navigation upgrade, and since we bought a car off of the dealer lot without that option, that wasn't possible. I've researched ways to load CarPlay into the head unit, but I decided it was too expensive and too risky to corrupt the factory software. That car doesn't have a dipstick, so you check the oil level via the infotainment screen; it seems pretty integrated into the car and I don't want to mess with it, in other words.

I've had no issues with over the air updates affecting factory navigation

I have two vehicles with nav. Never used them. Same with the radio. WAZ,Pandora, and iHeartRadio.

I use nav frequently.  It's a necessity for me.  Moving every 2-3 years to another part of the country because of my wife's career.

I looked into having the dealership/GM add factory navigation to my truck immediately after buying it in August 2020.  Dealership in Virginia called GM.  GM told them they no longer add factory navigation after the vehicle was built.  Use to be able to, but not anymore.  Only option was to go 3rd party.

Stealing is stealing.  There are laws against it.  Plain and simple facts.

I was hoping your response would have been more helpful.

Yea I read your stuff. Curious though ever try WAZ? I always have unlimited on my iPhone, are data or minutes the reason? I still have a 15 year old garmin that was a god send with my pipeline work. My problem with vehicle nav is unless you want to pay for extra service your not getting live traffic patterns. And there’re a pain to use.

OH GOT DUMMIT IM GUNNA SELL THIS PIECE OF TRASH AND BUY A FÜRD!

So an aftermarket thing got wiped. Take it up with them and they should be able to fix it.

Sounds like an admin issue, they'll get it straight.

If you ever find me in a Ford, known that I'm not there on my own free will.  Call 911.

Phone itself is good.  Data and minutes are both unlimited.  It's the connection to the radio that's the issue.  I am paying for the extra service for the live traffic on the factory navigation.  So, this is a situation where GM would affect GM's bottom line because I'll have to discontinue that service.  I know I'm only 1 person, and my pennies don't mean a thing to a billion dollar corporation, but it matters to me.

My phone hits the radio through Bluetooth or USB. I hear you on you already bought the product. Hope it works out.

When GM offered their own factory nav upgrade for 2019 and 2020 for IOS radio (which they then discontinued not even 2 months into 2020 MY), they gave you an SD card and an authorization code.  GM would issue the reprogramming of the necessary modules to make it happen.

2021, the option never existed.  The IOS radio also changes part #s for 2021 as well and 95% likely don't have the ability to upgrade from GM to factory navigation.

GM isn't in the wrong here.  GM's systems issue programming updates and software #s based directly from the options your VIN presents with.  Truck is a 2021 with IOS radio and w/o nav, that's the programming the radio receives.

I get that MVI uses OE radios for the swap, but GM has NO indication that your VIN was upgraded to have factory nav, so all the cal files issued are as the truck was built.

All I can say at this point?  Pay the $75 and see if the dealer can call GM Techline and try to bring it back.  Or, try to keep a cool head and see if the dealer is willing to split or eat the $75 to see if anything can be done.  Or, move on and use Apple Carplay/Android auto and Google maps, Waze, etc.  10x better than factory nav.

GM didn't "steal" it from you, the dealer didn't "steal" it either.  You went in with an issue, the truck was reprogrammed with the latest factory calibrations which means no nav.

So if you buy aftermarket wheels and GM updates them with stock wheels while in for service, or how about an aftermarket stubby antennae, and instead they put back-on a factory one, or maybe a aftermarket CAI system, and they re-install the factory one?? GM states truck needs to be factory specs or warranty is gone?!? Are you gonna accept that? It's his truck, not GM's, he paid for it with HIS $$. It is stealing.

GM wants to claim they are a tech company, well "tech-up" and fix the problem.  MVI didn't cause this, GM did! By whatever software update they uploaded onto his truck; caused it to be deleted, so yes, GM should "man-up/woman-up" (per Mary) and fix this issue.

But like a stated before, do it in a calm, STERN/FIRM manner!

You're not even on the same page, its factory software NOT parts.

Use WAZE, it has live traffic routing, has live updates from other users that show road hazards and where police are sitting.

GM made this mess.  Apparently, they want to parade around talking about how they're a tech firm, but don't want to actually behave like a tech firm.  Microsoft, Samsung, and Apple have no problem performing updates without deleting files.  GM should be, too.

https://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/10/general-motors-wants-the-public-to-see-it-as-a-tech-company/

As for MVI's whereabouts in all this?  They have been less than helpful.  I contacted them, and asked how much restoring the factory navigation was going to cost me.  No reply.  Only thing I've heard is several people are ahead of me, and they'll get back to me when it's my turn.

The path for resolution for this goes thru MVI.  I understand you're pissed at GM, but, how are they to know what aftermarket vendors are doing to their firmware to make the aftermarket devices work?  Now, as far as MVI is concerned, it might be helpful to assume positive intent - it may very well be that the GM update that broke the system was not anticipated by MVI - and MVI needs to figure this out, not just for you, but for anyone considering buying their hardware. There's also no guarantee if GM winds back the firmware update, that the MVI system would then work.

Its also a new update from GM, and I doubt that GM gave MVI any heads up the changes were coming.  Give MVI a little tine to fix this, or at least to communicate to their customers what the modification path looks like. MVI has to consider that this might be an ongoing process, where GM updates , the MVI mods break, MVI sends an update, and on and on.  MVI has a problem.  Unfortunately its your's too.

    • Folks, Have a great new 2026 WT  (std cab, 2.7/4WD) w/base 40/20/40 mech adj bench "fake buckets"  (with lower and upper center console) heavy vinyl seats.  Overall the seats are very comfortable and the vinyl is heavy and appears less likely to 'split out'. Am very tall (6'5")  + a bad back/osteporosis/former hyperparathyroidism so ease/range of movement is a bit restricted.  The truck rides a bit high and I use a nerf step bar w/my left foot to step in, then I put right foot/leg in, drag my butt in  & get seated.  Worked fine in my 2018 RAM quadCab. But I end up dragging my butt over the left raised sidecushsion area of vinyl seat, and due to texture there's fair amount of traction on slide inward.  (ArmorAll didn't improve.) If the seat were even ~1/2" - 3/4" lower it'd be helpful, but base seats just have the forward/backward underseat bail and the side lever for tilt which really doesn't affect seat height.   I really don't want to 'de-puff' the left side sidecushion forming the  fake 'bucket'. I know one company sells 'seat elevator blocks':  but is there a simple way of lowering the height of the driver seat instead?   Thanks Bill W San Jose
    • I have a basic 2026 1500 WT  (2.7L/4WD reg cab shorttbed). Comfy, generally happy with electronics/radio - but is there a way I can add switches to steering wheel right-side position (curr. empty) so I can adjust volume, push phone button to voice dial, etc? Bill W San Jose
    • The curb weight on a 1 ton crew cab long bed is around 7k lbs.  Now, I don't know where you went to school but 9k is not more than 2x 7k lbs. More than 2x 7k lbs would be 14k+.   With that said, obviously yes you're going to feel a 9k lb trailer when slowing down.  I already said, when accelerating.  When changing lanes?  No.  But if you look at the context of what was quoted, the original person said, "after a mile or two..." which means that would be after the accelerating portion and you're driving a generally steady pace.  Please do learn to read and comprehend.
    • So I purchased the Range unit for my 2026 and I am seeing different locations suggested for the ECM . Can anyone confirm wither under hood, left side or right side or behind the wheelwell?
    • Like I've said before. Di and Carbon buildup is not that big of a concern. Engine had minimal buildup, and that engine was obviously not super well maintained. Do regular oil changes, and you're gtg as long as the rest of the truck lasts. Also, the High Pressure FP that people ****** about, but can't tell you why.  Now, I wish they'd trash the variable oil pump. No real world issues with them, but I'll gladly eat whatever miniscule MPG it's saving me in favor of more oil at all RPMs.    Curious to see his assessment of the 7.3 compared to the 6.6. I expect he'll praise the port inj, but from a structural standpoint, the 6.6 is as robust as any engine out there.    Not to take away from the 7.3. I feel it's equally as good as the 6.6.     As to heat on the rear cyls, I'd have to see numerous examples before I'd say it's an issue. Especially not knowing the history of that engine. For all is known, they could have blown a rad hose, and ran it hot, and the 2 rear cyls may be the first to get hot in a low coolant situation, but not be an issue aside from that.
