I always find it funny how the OEMs push for Top Tier but to actually benefit from a really good Top Tier fuel it requires an octane jump to really benefit from them.

I recall from a few years back there was an attempt to actually push for 91 octane to become the minimum octane rating as there would be performance and fuel economy benefits to these newer DI engines and turbo engines instead of setting them up for 87.  Automakers and Legislators Consider Making Premium Gas the New Standard

If that min octane (avg of RON and MON ) was required ALL our engines would benefit and emission would decline.

I have an acquaintance in Germany that tells me the word Premium there means not octane but treat rate. So for example they have Regular lets say 87 and Premium 87. Not actual numbers they use a different system so just for the purpose of explaining. Hope that was clear 😬

My choice has been using AMSOIL PI every 4000-5000 miles to the relatively low cost MAVERIK E15 in the DI engines.

In my Multiport or carbed engines AMSOIL UCL  ( upper cylinder additive ) does that friction modification and some cleaning of injector or carb. I decide interval based on my tracking MPG drop off.

Buying a rack mixed fuel is an improvement over adding things to my tank.

Long time user of Red Line SI-1 myself.

Still use of Shell V Power Nitro + seems to do the trick plus keep KI at bay.

My truck has the 6.2, so it's 93 octane only for me.  The wife only uses 87 in her Traverse, but again, no issues on the fuel side of things.

REAL TOP TIER gasoline would burn so clean regardless of octane rating very little or no polymeric additives would be required to clean up the post EGR deposits the current fuels form.

That's our issue.

Marketing terms like TOP TIER, PREMIUM, REGULAR, MIDGRADE, mean little to the engine as it sees service.

Kinda like SYNTHETIC.

I use BP for the most part.  Basically because I get a discount using my BP card. But now that I can get E85. I is it in my 2019 Silverado 6.2. When I don’t. I notice a difference in performance. I also use the Upside app. Amazing how much money one can get back using it. At first I didn’t believe it until a friend who goes through fuel like crazy showed me their Upside app account.

I also use the Fuelly app. Easy way to keep track of mpg and other maintenance.

COSTCO here has Top Tier.

You need to get over to the applied science club site here and post your Amsoil oil analysis. 🧐 🫡

You guys are too smart for me.  I was invited to that club, but I think I'll join to be a sponge and learn.

It doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s like a website within a website or a club. Reminds me of all these TV channels having a plus channel. For just a little more money or effort you can get it. But if that makes your birdie sing. It kinda reminds me of my church. There’re probably all the same. They complain about attendance then tell you to do more. Finally I finally said to him teach don’t chastise. Making things harder doesn’t invite attendance or clicks, even a little bit. I rebel. Amazon prime just started with commercials recently instead of raising prices they said. But for a few dollars more you can avoid commercials. Sure ok. Netflix.

No, it comes up with stuff extra to do. It’s not open like the rest of the threads. That’s ok, enjoy your club.
