What fool dealer is that? I couldn't get an offer over $14K with it running good. Someone wants to give me 20K trade in on this rusty lemon, I'll trade today.

$14k

"cam install would be half the worth of the truck"

I think you might be getting robbed blind.

i would keep the 5.3 in there, too much monkey business swapping in a 6.0

cheaper to get the HPtuner and delete the DOD and all emmissions parts and software, then you'll love it again when its got power and reliability

Y'all are telling me to use genuine GM parts... Was quoted $2500 just for the cam, in a cardboard box, by the GM dealer in 2020.  Using the labor is 2X the cost of parts formula that's $7500 to put in a cam.

Looks like I can get aftermarket for a few hundred dollars, but y'all said not to use junk aftermarket parts.

$2500 for just the cam itself, no labor.  Pretty sure there was a misunderstanding there.

Factory DOD cam is $211.26.  The labor at $125/hr is about $3200, 28.4 hours with 4x4 to remove and replace the cam.  If you did a full on factory new cam, all new regular lifters, a new VLOM (which comes with high pressure fuel pipes and 8 DOD lifters), head gasket kit, head bolts, cam phaser bolt, crank balancer bolt, timing chain and tensioner, so all out replace a bunch of stuff to make it all good, that's $1843 in parts.  So $5043 plus tax.  If the dealer near you was $200/hr, that's $7523 plus tax.  Both a lot less than $14000.

Brian Tooley Racing has a DOD delete kit that would run you about $1000 using a GM 6.6 gas cam, GM hardware and GM gaskets, BTR's install kit and BTR oil tower block offs.

If this was the first time, and I knew then what I know now, it probably would have been worth the money.

That time, the only "advice" I got was, "If you're satisfied with the repair..." What should I have done? Crickets.

At this stage, I'm $5000+ into repairs, and STILL don't have a running truck. Another $5000-$7500 in repairs that I absolutely should NOT be needing to make, is just too much for what the truck is worth. $10,000-$12,500 in repairs on a truck that appraises at $14000 on KBB and cars.com, and even then I'll STILL be driving a ticking time bomb.

Before you go into how the online appraisal sites are "fixed" by the dealers association to give unrealistically low values... I know. It's the value the dealer is going to offer. It's what a private party is going to offer. I can stomp my feet and hold my breath, insisting its worth more, but nobody is going to agree with me, and it still leaves me stuck with this lemon.

Sure I'm the odd man out here but I look at these sorts of things differently when I look at repair costs.

Yep, value vs worth.

I get offers all the time for my 2009 Buick LaCrosse. Great offers. Then I ask them..."What would I replace it with"? (I also wonder what buyer they have lined up and the profit they would make on the flip. 😉 )

I do the same thing with repair cost. What would that repair cost buy me to replace what is being repaired? If you like the truck and it is in good shape otherwise then even a new motor is a bargain. I mean if you need wheels and your going to scrap it then you MUST buy something to replace it...right? What's the offset?

All the aggravation and cost the wife's 2.4 Terrain has cost me combine is still only a few months of a new truck payment. It's otherwise a great SUV. It would become unbearable IF the monthly cost of repair and rentals is equal to or greater than the payments on a new one for the SAME or LONGER length of time. It's a bottom line thing. Your wallet is the bottom line not some bank book or public opinions which have no real  value you can put on  your table...not even this one...

I don't get your question. If you say it isn't worth it then junk the truck. What do you want us to do snap our fingers and make all your problems go away?

This thread sounds like a whole bunch of whining and not a whole lot of doing.

The original question is yes. Yank the engine transmission and wiring harness. You could even check with a painless type outfit and get the harness. Then the drive shaft there’s outfits that can do that too. Read stuff get your hands dirty no big deal.

What isn't there to get? "Has anyone LS swapped a 2015 Silverado?"

I have access to a 2000 6.0L engine, and I'm having repeated troubles with a 2015 5.3L DOD/AFM/whatever engine seizing lifters. I thought it would be an interesting thought exercise at the very least and who knows, maybe someone has done it and I'd strike gold.

The rest of this came from the "Fix it at any cost regardless of the value of the vehicle" crowd such as yourself. I am simply reporting what I've been told it will cost to have X Y and Z performed by the professionals available to me. You may have "good buddies" that will do it cheaper, or for a case of beers, or maybe your dealers aren't out to shaft everyone where you live. That's not the case here.

As this has totally gone off the rails and is now getting antagonistic, I am done with this thread and with you.

    • Because single shot injectors are ancient and multi hole injectors provide smoother running engines and sharper throttle response due to the fuel being atomized better..the best lead I have is a 24lb blue top injector almost everything matches up but the injector will put out about 26lb/hr which is just outside the gm threshold.figured id ask here to see if there was an absolute answer
    • Why is my question?   Any change in injectors requires a tune. Unless you are going back with the OEM part number or a newer part number of that same injector.   Any size difference or type difference like the EV6 style injectors all have different injector data for them. And there is no EV6 injector that matches the factory 25 lb/hr size that your truck comes with. I've been messing with these trucks and tuning them for a long time and what you trying to do doesn't exactly make sense to me.
    • My 6.6 gas lt8 had lifter noise with 28000 miles bought new 2026 and while driven to dealer it threw #1 rod bearing “HD my ass” good luck with yours i hope it don’t turn a rod bearing!
    • When a condition becomes a business model.    https://www.gm-trucks.com/gm-truck-suv-incentives-pricing-2026/   Zane posted this in "Latest Articles".    The honest bottom line   Truck buyers have spent three years assuming this is a temporary condition that will break once inventories normalize. GM just presented it to investors as a durable strategy, on a chart, as evidence of good management.   Inventory did normalize. GM is at 511,000 units and squarely inside its own 50 to 60 day target. The discounts still did not come back, because the low incentive number is the goal rather than a symptom of shortage.   Plan your purchase around that reality instead of waiting for it to change. Follow our ongoing GM News coverage for pricing and incentive changes as the next-generation trucks land.
    • Thought it was raining this morning when we woke. Nope. Dew point was over 80 F and humidity 98%. Zero visibility distance. Everything was 'sweating'. I've seen rain come out of clouds but never out of Pepper or the tree trunks.    Wicked storms just missed us sliding off to the east but by blocks. Heat index about 110 F with air temp in the 90's.    This is  our third wave this month of multiple days of this type of weather. And yet the grass is going dormant and the ground is cracking this side of the street and water up the the hood opposite. Just weird stuff going on.
