Guys, I see that my '17 Silverado with 5.3L V-8, has a "Hours Read Out" on the dash information cluster. My question is; Can this be reset like MPG or Oil service reset by pushing the center button on the steering wheel? Mine reads 1547.4 hrs. I'm curious if this is total hours from new or from a reset?

I didn't want to push the "reset button" if this reading was from new & lose that information.

Thanks for any information on this

Thanks! That's what I needed to know. So that number of hours is from when it was new.

Makes perfect sense that it can’t be, otherwise it’s like resetting the odometer. Hour meter is IMO more useful than the odometer.

“It’s only got 50k miles on it.”

”Yeah, but another 25k miles sitting still.” 😂

No reset, it is a lot more usefull tool for fleet or commercial trucks that do maintenance service based on hours, or a combo of both hours and miles.

Although if you do mostly city driving, hours will be higher than comparable miles driven in highway. High hours don't always mean that truck has just sat there idling a lot...

My thinking is that I would like to  change oil not only by miles but maybe associated with 'hours of run time'.

Joe Average will have a total miles / total time of about 36 mph according to the last Ford Fleet Services record I saw. That would make a 7,500-mile OCI roughly 200 hours.

Worth a read: Link oil-change intervals to engine hours, not mileage - Maintenance - School Bus Fleet

@diyer2 tossed the idea of OCI based on fuel used once. @customboss UOA's. I've used them all at one time or another.
