Buying oil

How are you guys buying 8qts of oil? 
I intend to buy 3 5qt jugs plus 1 quart to have enough for two oil changes.

That's one way, i buy gallon jugs from amsoil.

Some brands bottle in one-gallon containers. AMSOIL for example. Schaeffer's another. Red Line. I expect there are some shelf brands as well. More common for HDEO than PCMO lubricants.

I had been a Costco member and would buy 6 quart boxes when they would have the rebate on them and then I would buy a 5 quart jug usually from Walmart as they were a buck or two cheaper than other stores. I'm not a Costco member anymore and I'm not paying $50+ for a 6 quart box when a 5 quart jug is currently just under $30. I saw that Mobil sells 12 quart bulk pack boxes with a spout for about $60. I think I'll be picking one of those up for my next oil change.

Either two 5 quart jugs or I get bay boxes.

 

Bay boxes are 5 or 6 gallons of oil, they are really nice to be honest.

 

Napa sells them and I'm sure other places as well. For example the Napa Full Syn 0W20 is $146 for 6 gallons. Napa oil is produced and packaged by Valvoline.

I wait for the full synthetic oil to go on sale at Menards and I stock up.  Right now it is on sale for $19 (5 qt jug).  They also have the 15% bag sale on which brings it down to  $16 for the jug.   

It is normally Quaker State Full Synthetic which is on sale and my Z71 takes 8 qts.   I will stock up with 0w20, for my Z71,  5w30 for my wife's vehicle and 10w30 for all my other machines (Generac Whole House 16kw automatic backup generator, Kubota diesel tractor, Bad Boy mower, garden tiller, cultivator and log splitter).    The twin hydraulic drive pumps on the Bad Boy Mower requires 2 qts of 20w50 racing oil or motorcycle oil for each side, but you never find it on sale.  I try and look for full synthetic 20w50 with extra zinc in it.   However it is getting hard to find.   All this is full synthetic because I am not going to skimp on taking care of what I paid good money for

Normally get qts from Black02Silverado and Amsoil.  While I am testing Dexos approved oils I am using Walmart online, ships me 6 qt Havoline plastic containers housed in a cardboard outer. Perfect for 6 qt capacity of L3B 2.7Turbo.

Seems the big 6 gallon boxes are some what popular from other forums I'm on.  I just like that AMSOIL has it in one gallon jugs.  Pour two in and done.  No messing with qts.

I keep an empty 5 quart jug in the garage, has the site line on the side. Fill it up to the 4 quart mark twice and call it good.

So to bring this back…where are you guys buying bulk oil?  I’m not having any luck finding the bulk boxes around here.

Your local Napa or Advance Auto should have their house brands in bulk boxes.  Lucas has boxes on Summit.  Won't find a brand name one in a bulk gallon box though unless we are talking 55 gallon drum, as far as I know.

I was hoping to get the 5-6 gallon boxes so I’d have enough to do at least two oil changes per purchase but apparently that’s a no around here. NAPA lists them online but the local store says they can’t get them. 
 

I can get the 3 gallon Bulk packs at Walmart so I’ll probably go that route.
