Hi everyone,

I did search before posting this but I wanted to ask here to be sure.

I have a new to me 2020 Trailboss LT and my Onstar just expired.

I didn't realize that the Chevrolet Maps+ was part of the Onstar package?.

I assumed I was only going to lose the turn by turn service.(beside roadside assistance)

My phone is old Samsung Galaxy S5(stop laughing) :) and it does NOT support Android Auto.

I am somewhat disappointed not having navigation in my pretty new modern truck:( (my 2013 Tundra had built in navigation, how can this truck not have it)?

I read there used to be a SD card that would make the navigation work? but apparently they stopped selling them? I have the convenience II package.

My question is, is there any other way to have my trucks navigation system work? or is a new phone my only option(besides just using my phone)

thank you

What is the version of your infotainment system? (I am not familiar enough with the various trim levels to know). I have a Sierra SLE which did not come with OEM navigation. I have IOS and as a result, was able to purchase an aftermarket product, which came with an SD (map) card and device to, briefly, plug into the OBD11 port, which gave me OEM navigation (although it is missing some Onstar-related components like speed limit, but no big deal). As I was initially mislead by the dealer and believed I was getting OEM navigation, I discovered to the contrary and with the particular trim level, GM would not install navigation, after the truck left the factory.

sorry i'm not sure how to tell which version it is? My truck has the HD screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

In the window sticker they refer to it as Chevrolet Infotainment 3 plus .

My truck is pretty much loaded so I'd assume it has their more expensive system?

thanks again

I’ve done lots of traveling in the last 40 years. I’ve used built in navigation, stand alone and last since available my IPhone. And recently WAZE. Even the standard navigation on my iPhone is really good. They’re pretty good at police detection if you speed. I have three vehicles with built in that are a hassle in comparison. Don’t use them. I don’t like lots of hassle especially driving. So the phone through blue tooth handles even my music and news with iHeart radio and pandora. You can preload sitting at the kitchen table and the blue tooth picks it up and you’re driving. So lesson the hassle update the phone. You can even just talk to your phone on the fly it does it for you. This is from a 67 year old who’s tech challenged. Banging on the iPhone.

i agree update your phone. like karnut i have been driving for almost 50 years, lol in the 70's there was no navigation or cell phones. our company ships horses so you are in the  country a lot. bought lots of state maps in my time. now a days everything is at a finger tip, the navigation in our 2020 denali sucks compared to google maps or waze. i still dont use navigation much unless there is traffic jams and i need to find a way around them. horses on a hot day dont like sitting still. it is nice though when i go to cities to know when the street you are looking for is coming up.

I use navigation all the time even visiting my mother 30 miles away. There’s several ways to go even the interstate. So if’s there’s a problem I know the route before leaving the driveway.

Agree on the new phone if he wants to go that way. I do believe 2020 and above has the wireless connect system. I have the 2019 Sierra and it's a PITA to have to connect through a wire. I don't use nav much unless I'm in an unfamiliar area. I find WAZE to be very good. On Star uses Goggle Maps. I find it to be unreliable. The last update was April 2022. If the USB card doesn't have enough 'space', it won't update.

WAZE for me.

    • I'm also waiting to see if they confirm Apple CarPlay, because I'm not interested in subscription fees just to use the hardware I already purchased.    In closeups it looks like it gets the Colorado/Canyon center screen based headlight controls which I despise. They also appear to lose all the hard switches for functions like seat heating and cooling, parking sensors, lane control, traction control, etc. which means they're all screen/menu based, so verdict is out on how well those will work with gloves or wet/dirty hands.  Admittedly they don't show the left knee area of the dash, but I don't see hard switches for locker control on the ZR2, and the "mode" switch appears to eliminate the rotary dial with a quick way to access tow/haul.  My 2021 has had multiple screen failures and at times the screen just locks up, goes black, or reboots while driving even after replacement, so loosing the ability to access many of these functions, especially lighting control would be pretty frustrating.   There aren't enough photos or detailed trim details other than one mention of "available microfiber trim" to confirm, but the use of microfiber on the seats and or center console is a deal killer for me.  Just because you drive a ZR2 or High Country, doesn't mean you don't work out of it, and that material is difficult at best to keep clean and looking decent.   Lexus and several other brands are using it on seats, dash, and door panels now, I assume as a cost and weight saving measure,  and it looks horrible 1-2 years into ownership.  I see what appears to be piano black on the doors and center console in some photos, which also has no place in ANY vehicle in my opinion because it mars and scratches too easily, especially for a truck.  Will be interesting to see what GMC comes out with when the Sierra is released as far as materials go.
    • Im a fan.  Simply moving the screen up helps the look of the interior.  I feel like GM dropped the ball on the current gen having the screen not at the same level as the top of the gauge cluster.  The GMCs look better with the vents above the screen to close that gap.
    • I hear you, its just not something one would even think of that the new oil in the container isn't filtered to a spec one would expect it to be.    As to a passenger vehicle theme and the maintenance requirement to meet to ensure a warranty is honored, these days with claims of life time transmission fluid on some models and the limited amount of oil changes that would bring one to the end of the factory warranty, that sells vehicles for those that like to hear "easy care maintenance free", but the manufacturer certainly knows different as to what that more than likely means for the longevity of some of the components if given that minimum spec maintenance. Then again I imagine there are a fair number of people that really don't care as long the vehicle gets them a certain number of years down the road because they are the type that want the next new thing, new and improved ... more bells and crap etc on the new one on the show room floor. Manufacturers have learned the phycological game to entice the customer out of their money !
    • Why soooooo many screens? Shall we just replace the windshield with a large plasma?!?!? Besides that I like the looks. And they added back the additional door cubbies,    No SS???
