This is the chrome or black trip piece on the outside bottom of the windows.

All of the videos that I found show them being pulled straight up after removing the back screw.  This will break the clips and cause the trim to not lock in securely.  Luckily replacement tabs are cheap and can be found on ebay.

The nub on the clips that holds the strips tight is very, very small.

Yep, that is one of them.  I used that method and the clips snapped.  I couldn’t figure out what was going at first because the clips looked ‘normal’ but closer inspection revealed the tiny nubs that lock in place were all broken off.

So, is there a trick to removing them without breaking the small "nubs"?

I think there is a special tool that can be used but I’m not well versed enough to speak to it.  It might be necessary to remove the door panel first.

Honestly if I were to have to do it again I would just have replacement clips on hand before starting and plan on replacing the old ones.

Could you view the video I posted & see if you can see what exactly breaks off & see if it broke off on his?

The nubs that break off are on the other side of the clips in your picture.

Visible in Pic #1 of the ebay listing below.

Just out of curiosity, were you working on it outside and was it cold? I know that plastic and cold do not get along and will cause plastic to get brittle. I've suffered from this before...

Can someone provide a part # or link for the weather stripping?

Also, is there a way to remove WITHOUT breaking clips?

thanks

Got my new clips in, installed them and now the trim is tight like it should be.  Satisfying snaps when I pushed it back into place.

To remove the old clips, use a small flathead to unhook them from the rubber edge and then slide them to the open end and out.  My trim had a crimp that I had to bend out of the way to slide the old clips out.  Used needle nose pliers to open it up and then a small hammer and punch to crimp it back.

The new clips just push into the trim easily at the old locations.
