Transmission Cooler Line Failure

Recommended Posts

I had the AC condenser in my 2015 Sierra 1500 with 87K miles replaced at my local GM dealer since it had a crack in it, and when I drove it the next day the transmission went out.  Transmission cooler line blew out and covered the entire engine bay with tranny fluid.  Dealer says it was likely the metal spring holding the line was fatigued when they put in back on after doing the AC fix.  They fixed the cooler line, and they say the truck runs but there are solenoid codes for the transmission, and they want to give me a new transmission for free.  I was told the housing will be used but the parts inside will be new.  Does Anyone know what transmission brand they are likely to use and how reliable are they compared to the OEM transmission?

If it's a GM dealer, I would assume they would be using OEM parts to fix it. The only way you will know is to ask the directly.

A friend of mine changed the condenser on his 2014 Silverado behind our office. had the refrigerant replaced and all was good.
During the process, he didn't properly insert and tighten the transmission line and a day later, the line blew. Fluid everywhere.
Lesson learned.
Seems the dealer may have done the same and are making excuses.
At least, they are making it right.

Yeah I'm glad they are trying to make it right and from what I gather the lines are under quite high pressure so any small defect or improper installation will likely cause a failure, however if my dealer had any doubts about the spring clamp I wished they replaced it, being 'professional grade' and all.

Well my dealer kept their promise, since I got my truck back today with a GM remanufactured transmission (Serial # starts with 17CKA) and runs like new so far.  I also received a Warranty Claim Code for it.  I was told the codes that my old transmission showed were p0700 and p2723 when they initially started the diagnosis on it.
