When we dry camp overnight at say a Walmart parking lot on our way to another campground, the battery is at a 100% when we stop and typically around 65% when we leave the next morning 10 hours later. The battery on the camper is keeping our fridge and freezer cold. It's giving us light, powering up our phones, powering the water pump when we take showers, that one battery is doing it's job big time. After driving another 3 hours when we stop to stretch, I look at the power meter and we are back to 100% just from the truck and our 165 watt solar panel. I love it!!!
Kevin Peele Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 (edited) Just had to cancel a vacation from Iowa to Maine because of this. The truck threw these errors and I suspected the solar causing it. disconnect it (2 hr into trip) in Illinois and all was fine for the another coupe of hrs. then in Indiana started again intermittently. decided better to cancel trip. after awhile it only disengaged when starting the truck. Hoping they have the bulletin published by then so I can point the service director to that. Also need them to figure out why any trailer I plug in says the running lights don't work, and the running lights are always on. Will update what I hear. Ah you have the running light problem too? I took it in to Chevy and it's supposed to be a "trailer light module" they need to order a part which they cannot get because of the strike. But I am also having the trailer brake issue as well.

This is true but, it does not charge with a high enough voltage (14.6-.8) volts to fully equalize a LiFePo4 battery(s) which is important for long battery life. You need a LiFePo4 enabled solar charge controller or a proper DC converter to get to the required voltage.

Our camper is already equipped with a selectable charge controller for the different battery types. 1

Yes. Waiting on the two modules. One is in. Other is supposed to arrive tomorrow, but I doubt that...

It was diagnosed as needing a new trailer light control module in addition to the updated brake control module at the dealership two weeks ago, which is when they ordered the modules. Computer still saying the light module will arrive today. It's scheduled to go in for service tomorrow. Edited October 3, 2023 by UWSkier
Jon Sairs Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I am so glad I found this thread. I am on a sunny road trip with my 2024 3500 Duramax which is is disconnecting it's trailer controller and chimming constantly as I tow my TT with 300 watts solar & 1.000 miles to go!!! I will try disconnecting solar and or removing #84 fuse and try to keep my sanity! I will give an update to see if this cures the issue. Interestingly the last trip was cloudy and I did not have this issue.

At least that was my experience before I bought a cheap diode and wired it in.
2Ranchers Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Brought the truck in for its first oil change (complementary) and told the dealer about the brake controller issue when towing our travel trailer. They've ordered a new updated brake controller. No commitment to when it will arrive sue to the strike.
2Ranchers Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 New brake controller arrived today. Bringing the truck in next week for install and re-programming. Shocked that it took only 5 days to get here. 1

SMoseley Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 So I installed a diode on my camper to prevent the camper power from back feeding to the truck. Haven't had an issue since. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UVR570?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
