2016 Silverado Android Auto

My dad and I both have a 2016 Silverado.  Android Auto has never worked in out trucks, until recently.  Plugged my phone into his truck to charge but Android Auto popped up and worked! Apps and google maps both showing up on the dashboard screen.  (worked with both of our different Samsung phones)  
Tried it on my truck then and nothing happened.  Any help as to why Android Auto would work on his truck but not on my truck.

Try using different cables.

In the truck it worked, both phones worked with two different cables.  Same cables with the same phone did not work in my truck.

Check if Android Auto has been turned off in the settings menu in your radio.

There is a strong possibility that yours never got the updated software to run Android Auto. The radios starting with 2016 models were Android Auto "capable" but the earlier 2016 needed an update for it to work. My 2016 was built in December and needed the update. I had to go into a GM dealer to have it done. I was able to get mine that I bought Apr 2016 done shortly after purchasing it and they did it for free. It was a slow one and I think it took almost 2 hours for them to do it. 

 

Unfortunately if yours (and I'm assuming it is by now) is out of bumper to bumper warranty, you would have to pay the dealer to do this unless you could call in a favor...

What month was your truck built?

Another question, if you look in your glovebox at the RPO codes, does it have I05 or I06? And here is a service bulletin related to this as well

Finally found a dealership that said if the truck is compatible for the update it would be $180.

If it is compatible, still cheaper than switching out the module for upgraded one. Hopefully they can do it for you
