I have a 2015 Silverado and if I’m driving down the road about 60 MPH and switch from D to M should it drop down into a certain gear or stay in the gear it’s currently in?

Assuming you have a 6 speed automatic, I think it will drop 1 gear (from 6th to 5th)

My 2015 Silverado would typically drop two gears at least when I switched modes... 100% stock. I was basically always afraid of what would happen at higher speeds if I were to switch to M mode because of this.

When you first change to M it will stay in the current gear.

I use the manual mode every weekend when I get in the hills.

It totally depends on what gear the truck is in at the time you switch and other variables like the current speed. Mine ALWAYS dropped at least one gear on switching while in motion with lesser load on the drivetrain. It was easy to tell because the RPM's jumped significantly...
