I have a 2022 Silverado Trail Boss which I just got back after 68 days out of service due to a failed valve body. I currently have a Lemon Law case filed and if I win the buyback from GM, I will need to make a decision. I will either trust GM replaced the faulty valve body with a "newly designed" one that will not fail in the future and keep my TB or accept the buyback and look to purchase a 2024 or newer Silverado LT Trail Boss under warranty. It is just that I love the feel of the V8 and the fact I have done so much aftermarket work on my TB and to accept the buyback will just throw all that hard work and value away. Difficult decision.

It is a tough decision. Although the actual value of the modifications you made is debatable what isn't is GM will not likely factor in the cost of those modification into their buy back offer. As well, they are going to factor in "reasonable" depreciation. In other words, and as you likely know, they are not going to buy it back at the full purchase price at which you bought it in 2022. And whatever their offer is I believe it must be applied to a new vehicle, not used. Whatever the price was for your TB in '22, the price of a new TB with the same original equipment will be higher. You spend more on a new truck, and absorb the depreciation of the old truck, and absorb most, if not all, the cost of the modifications.

 

Which engine is in your TB? If it's the 6.2 your decision might be easier.

It has the 5.3. And in the state I reside, apparently it can be a used vehicle, at least this is what both the GM mediator and Arbitration Board member mentioned to me. The vehicles I am considering are low mileage (under 10,000 miles) so might as well be brand new. I was told GM is considering reimbursing me for at least some of the aftermarket costs. I do realize I will not get 100% of the purchase price. My Arbitration Board member mediator told me I should get back approximately 90% of the purchase price as well as taxes, finance fees, registration and title fees.

When GM offered to buy back my '23 HC (literally the day I picked it up from the dealer after the VB replacement) it was not under my state's lemon law since I purchased the truck used, and their offer was basically market value. If I accepted the offer I'd have to purchase a new truck, which would have cost me an additional 20k minimum over what I paid for the '23.

 

If you can get back 90% of the purchase price, AND all the taxes/fees, AND some portion of cost of the modifications, I'd be giving that some serious consideration.

Man, that really sucked just because it was used?  I bought my '22 new, but the next one I am considering to purchase will be a used 2025 Silverado LT Trail Boss with less than 5000 miles. It goes to show you how every state has different laws/policies when it comes to Lemon Laws and GM buybacks. I even went as far as inquiring with GM whether they would extend the Bumper to Bumper and Valve train warranties on my '22 Custom Trail Boss and they said because of the state I reside, they could not offer this to me!! What the hell, right!?

Over Easter weekend I traveled 3 states away to visit family, planning to tow a trailer back to my home state. The night before Easter I was topping the truck off with fuel, getting back onto the highway, and as soon as the truck went to shift above 6th gear, limp mode was activated, P0747/P0700 present. Obviously the dealerships are closed on Easter, I dropped the truck at a local dealership Monday morning (4/21). They complete their diagnosis and confirm the Valve Body needs to be replaced. Surprise, new valve body is STILL on back-order, with NO ETA for the new part to be available.

 

Dealership would not provide me with a loaner vehicle as I would have needed to drive it three states away. Understandable, I'll just work with GM when I get back home to get a loaner from a local dealer, right? Rental agency had no trucks available last minute that could tow, having to leave my trailer 3 states away as well. I've since returned home, (had to cover rental cost to get home) and the local dealership's won't provide me with a loaner as they're not the ones doing the repair on the truck. 

 

I've reached out to GM support, to which they offered a $44/day stipend for a rental vehicle. HOW am I supposed to replace a truck via rental for $44/day? And then I'm supposed to cover the charge for the rental until the truck is repaired, which we DON'T even have an ETA for!?

 

Aside from the replacement/loaner vehicle situation in the meantime, HOW is this part still on back order? I have multiple trips planned over the next month that require a tow vehicle, and no timeline when I will be able to get my truck back. So now I'm covering the charge for a rental and about to start making payments on a $70k+ truck, that's THREE STATES AWAY. This is just unacceptable from a major OEM, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't regret going away from Ford.

 Update of events since 4/23.

 

Dealer stated a transmission replacement was approved under warranty since their was no ETA on the availability of the new VB PN: 24066238. They would wait until 5/2 to attempt acquiring a valve body, if not successful, they were to order the transmission on 5/2.

 

  • 5/2: No valve body showed up
  • 5/5: Transmission replacement ordered
  • 5/8: Notified that on 5/6 it was discovered the transmission was now on backorder. However, on 5/6 a valve body showed up, was to now be installed and have the truck ready for pickup by 5/14
  • 5/13: Notified that on 5/10 the valve body was installed, failed to program. Attempted to reprogram on 5/12, still failed. Manager directed to test drive truck and see if operational, truck would not shift out of first gear.

I have a trip planned to travel across 3 states tomorrow in which I was also planning to pick the truck back up. No longer possible. Also currently have over $2,200- in rental car debt that GM is arguing over refunding fully. 

 

If they do not make this right, I can confidently say they've lost any future business from me. I hope I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I am now a member of this club. 22 silverado 2.7 with 8 speed. Brought it in For hard shifts and check engine light. Check engine light was for purge pump needing to be replaced and as for hard shifts was told I need a valve body replacement. No ETA for to part. All this on a truck with 35k miles on it.

So had VB replaced in January on new 2024 silverado with 6k miles. Fingers crossed but so far so good. Anyway today brought to the dealer for oil change and was told there may be a “recall” on the check balls in the VB. After it was done I was told I did not need the check balls replaced because apparently the new VB has the correct one. I guess this isn’t an active recall or whatever you would call it. They only mention it if you happen to bring your truck in for some maintenance and then they check it. I also think it only applies to trucks still under warranty but I am not sure.

I took a trip to Florida in March with my wife and 3 kids (from Toronto, Ontario). About half way home the valvebody failed on my wife’s Tahoe. The valvebody was another item that suffered  recall recently. In this case GM chose to reprogram the engine computer to only shift into 5th when it detected a failure. I’m it was way cheaper for GM to do this instead of replacing all the effected units. Anyway it failed 12 hours from home on a Saturday night. We ended up needing a hotel until Tuesday. Dealer of course is closed weekends. Monday afternoon they informed us that the valvebody was faulty and on a national back order. “May take months to get one”. 
My wife and 2 kids got ride home with her parents who were still in Florida and cut their trip short to help. My son and I had to fly home. 
About a month later GM got it the valvebody replaced so I flew down to pick it up. My wife missed 2 days of work and I have lost 4 days. GM told us they would reimburse us for the expenses. So far they have paid half and are now giving us the runaround about the rest. We are out thousands but GM sure saved by not being proactive and replacing all the effected parts.

I have a 2023 Trailboss with the same valvebody and also a 6.2 motor. I’m afraid to take it on any trips. My son has a go kart race 6 hours from home next month and I’m going to have to pay to transport his kart. I’m not confident my truck will be problem free and to be honest I can’t afford to pay the expenses if it fails and I’m towing g a trailer. It was a disaster with just the vehicle and no trailer. 
FWIW I have held off posting this because GM had told us they would reimburse us but they haven’t come through. 
I should also add that the day after I got home from picking up her Tahoe the engine light came on. Back to the dealer. A local one at least. This time the part needed was only 2 weeks to get. They gave us a rental but the rental is either a Caravan over a best up Dodge base model truck. Nothing like making payments a fully loaded SUV while you drive 

A caravan. And he best part is your warranty is slowly exporting while it sits in a back lot at dealership.

Apparently GM has requirements for rental reimbursement, must be a GM vehicle, and they'll only reimburse up to $44/day, etc. How is $44/day supposed to cover anything close to a 3500? My first rental was not a GM vehicle, as I was at the mercy of whatever was available that day. I notified GM, they said they would make note of this in the case, and should be able to provide a full refund due to the delay in travel -- NOPE.

 

I don't know about your state, but in MI, Lemon Law can be applicable on used vehicles, if still within their OEM warranties. I will be contacting a Lemon Law attorney myself this week as I'm out over $27k in cash the last 6 weeks between down payment, rentals, travel, etc. and have only had the truck in my possession for 2 weeks. And I can not be provided any sort of ETA on repairs, as the valve bodies are still on backorder and transmissions themselves are now on national back order, as of 5/15.

 

I feel bad for others not aware of this issue going out and still purchasing these trucks.

The funny thing is more often than not when my local dealer puts my wife in a rental it isn’t a GM. Thankfully when my local dealer does it they handle paying the rental company.

Just chiming in to add to the list of disgruntled GM owners. 

 

Valve body blew on mine last August. Thought I got lucky only having the truck down for a month.

 

Truck was back in the shop a week later.

 

I've had it in 3 times since then to fix the "shudder" between gears. The shudder never happened prior to the valve body going.

 

Every time I'm there the dealer blows me off, tells me to drive it more and it will resolve itself or that the "flush" fixes it every time. 3000 miles after the fluid flush it was shuddering between gears. 

 

GM customer service promised me rental reimbusment, towing reimbursement, and GM points. They called me weekly for a bit. Then they stopped calling. When I called to check in, I found they cancelled my claims. They denied an appeal, and gave me an address to write to as "all they could do".

 

After starting to notice the new valve body doing the same hard shifting the old one did, I dumped the truck. I was past 60K, and had only "my dealers word" that future incidents would be covered. Not good enough after failing to do anything else promised, including fixing my truck to how it was prior.

 

GM failed me every step of the way on this one. I was paying for a truck I was afraid to use as a truck.

 

I've owned half a dozen GMs over the years. Never again, they've lost me as a customer for life.

Hello All, 

 

Bought a used 2023 Silverado Hight Country with 22000 miles on it 3 weeks ago.  2 weeks in to owning it I got a "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" message.  My husband has an OBD reader and pulled a P0700 code which points to Transmission Control Module.  Took it in to my local Chevy dealer and a week later valve body is on back order, can't find one, no ETA, yada yada yada..... What sucks is we have a multi week road trip planned in 2 weeks and it's not looking like I'm going to have my tow vehicle for our trailer.  First Chevy purchase and so far not impressed.

    • You could try a used 1, they used that engine in the Astro vans, Plenty of them in the boneyard. Look for a wrecked or rotted 1 so the chance that it was scrapped for that reason and not a mechanical issue will be greater
    • Google converting 98 4.3 spider injection to carburetor if all else fails. 
    • My centre console USB ports haven’t been working and the one in the glovebox is starting to act up. When I plug my phone into the cord the radio will go black and stop playing, and the CarPlay is inconsistent.   I checked the fuses and they were fine. I changed the USB port out and still nothing. Hoping for some advice on what I should be looking at.  
    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
