Hood light

Does anyone have a factory hood light on a 2020-2024 2500? Drives me crazy not having one. Maybe there are part numbers I could simply order???

There is no factory hood light.  Hasn't been one since like 2002 so 22 years ago.

Had one on my 2003 Duramax. Haven’t seen one since.

I had installed one from a very old Chevy Caprice that had actual mercury in the switch assembly since it's that old in my 14 'Rado, I just screwed it up in the middle of the hood where the support cross brace was located and just had to bend it to get it to turn on in the right spot and stay off when the hood was closed. I tried a LED light in there and it was fantastic for how bright it was but the engine heat broke the solder connections so I went back to a halogen bulb and it worked great. I'm debating on putting it in my 23 because it was somewhat nice to have for long road trips to check everything out but I do keep a flashlight in my truck at all times and it has a lithium battery so it lasts a good deal of time before needing a recharge.

 

What you could do if you wanted to is get a mercury switch like this https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item-31500-Omega-AU-46-Bag-of-5.html or even a sealed switch if you want to turn it on and off yourself and place some lights around the outside under the fender lip or the plastic cowling under the wipers with LED strips or something. With how I wired mine up on my last truck I had a little bullet fuse for it so when I was working under the hood and I didn't need the light working instead of backing the bulb out of it I would just pull the fuse connector apart and set it aside until I finished my work and then i'd reconnect it.

KC Lights sells an underhood kit that uses their Cyclone V2 LED lights. Comes with wiring and a switch. I think it would be a good option.

Find yourself one of the old recoil type under hood lights from the 90s GM trucks from a wrecker and change the bulb to an led.  Now you have something practical.

I actually mounted 4 rock lights on the protector under the hood.  Have them tied to one of the upfitter switches in the cab

The one in my 1993 K2500 still works with the original bulb!

I ordered a led strip light and switch from Amazon.  B08R1PC8F4 this item was a single strip with a plunger switch that mounts to an open hole just under the hood on the passenger side I just wired it to the Aux battery and it works great. I believe they have a dual led strip version now.

those LED strips sound pretty cool. might have to give that a try.

I used a simple LED light and zip tied to the insulator, ran a power wire behind the insulator down to the passenger side cowl and pulled power from the distribution box. The ground wire runs to a magnetic switch under the insulator and connects to a ground near the battery. You might have to adjust the ground switch to get it to come on exactly when you want.
