I have a 2018 GMC Canyon duramax diesel purchased new in NJ. It has 119,000 miles on it and it threw time and the engine is dead. The dealer said $21,000 to replace the engine. GM WILL NOT stand by their vehicles. I was told by a GM supervisor before she hung up on my the vehicle is too old and has too many miles for any GM assistance. I asked for the criteria and she said it is dependent on each vehicle. I asked her about the GMC Canyon Diesel and was told the same script. Too many miles and too old for GM to help with.
PLEASE DO NOT consider GM for your next car. They do not stand by the product they produce. I have found over 20 other catastrophic diesel failures in the same year. If you have one trade it back in.
Don’t Trust GM at all they will not help or stand by you when the warranty ends. I was told it’s my fault I did not by an extended warranty by the customer service supervisor. When I asked to speak to her supervisor or boss I was told she is it and would not let me talk to anyone else. GM is aware of the faulty engine  please be warned so you do not end up like me making the last payment and having a vehicle worth nothing.

Thank goodness it’s paid for. Maybe a used engine?

That sounds high for a replacement engine.

The criteria you should refer to is the manufacturers written warranty that describes exactly what GM will help with; I don't understand, the vehicle is outside of the warranty period, prior to which, GM would "stand by". Why would anyone buy an extended warranty when YOU get one for free? If you wanted GM to stand by their product longer, then you should have bought an extended warranty, what entitles you to more?

20 engine failures out of how many thousands? GM is aware of what specifically?

Awesome rant though.

The 2.8 Duramax uses a timing belt.  How is your failure to replace that belt to keep it in time GM's problem?
