There is a recall for select 2020+ trucks and SUVs for faulty transmissions that end up with a solenoid failure that leads to the rear wheels locking up while traveling.  What I'm confused about is which transmission is involved.  It's clear to me it's the 10-speed.  What isn't clear to me is how are the 3.0 Duramax trucks recalled but the 6.2 and some 5.3 gas V8s aren't.  According to the document the 3.0 Duramax gets a different 10-speed than the gas trucks?  Can somebody shed some light on this?  I have a 10-speed in my 2020 Trail Boss LT with the 6.2 V8.

So far its diesels only.  So 10L80 MQB spec'd for the 3.0 Duramax, and the 10L1000s in the big trucks.  

 

There are two p/n 10L80s, one is gas 5.3/6.2, the other 3.0 Duramax.  The valve bodies are different p/ns as well, a gas one and diesel one.

I was hoping you would respond.  I was always under the impression the 10-speed trans were all the same for the 1500s.  Thank you for your insight.

This whole thing seems to be blowing up and I'm going deeper down the rabbit hole.  The video I'm linking was therefore recommended to me by YouTube (link provided below).  While watching it I came upon an interesting comment thread (pics attached).  What I find really interfering is this whole thing popped up on my radar last week without me being aware of it.  Now I'm analyzing in my mind everything I was told by the transmission engineer with a new Bronco that I casually met in the parking lot of my credit union.

My guess is that GM is in damage mitigation mode and trying to hold back a forced recall that will actually fix the issue but cost many many dollars. 

I was glad to see @newdude chime in about the valve bodys having different PN between diesel and gas. My next question would be do they use the same parts that are failing in the diesel units ? My gut feeling is that they do but the lower torque numbers on the gassers may be gentler on the failing parts.  but it still begs the question of longevity. It sounds like Propulsion has some real issues lately. Another great opportunity for an enterprising person to make lots of money fixing another GM blunder.    Once again GM has assigned tens of thousands of folks the role of "beta tester"

This recall is interesting to me as well. I have a refreshed 22.5 model and it is not covered. But I have had a couple of instances on the highway where I've experienced the shudder that is described.  The couple of times it has happened. It has always been when under relatively minor acceleration, for example, using the plus on the cruise control to speed up from 60 to 70 or 65 to 70 or somewhere along those lines. I didn't equate it to a specific gearshift change, but I'm guessing it's the downshift from 10th to 8th. I have about 22,000 miles on my truck currently.

I understand theres another one on certain trucks that felt like a miss or surge while under a load. It was attributed to an issue in the trans (I dont recall the number) I had this issue on my 2021 with the L8T and 6 speed and of course nobody knew anything about it. Had I kept the truck my plan was to put a billet torque converter in it as soon as the warranty was over.

What I read was that the recall is ONLY a software upgrade that tells you there will be an issue.

I will look for that info as usual GM is a POS and not backing up there 70-100K $$ trucks.

This was my understanding of the recall as well - they aren't actually fixing it, just putting a monitor in place to warn of an impending issue... not sure if this is a stop-gap while they engineer a new part or just lazy.

One of the articles indicated that the newer trucks that are not included in the recall already have the problem detection routines in the software. 

Recall adds the newer software to the earlier units.

 

The detection routines are supposed to be able to identify the valves that need changing -- before  the lockup condition occurs.

So is there a timeframe in when they will have the issue with the software update sorted? I've been waiting to pick up a 21 2500hd for a little over a month now. I really like the truck and don't mind waiting, but I'm starting to wonder if and when it will actually be able to be taken off the lot
