Looking for a mechanic / engine builder shop in NJ that is capable of doing a mechanical delete of the AFM system on a 2019 Suburban. I am not looking to simply turn off or disable the AFM; I am looking to have the cam and solid lifter kit installed. There has got to be a performance shop in NJ or NY that is familiar with these reliability increasing modifications. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You're out of luck—I've been looking for the same thing for long time and I give up.

I haven't  found a mechanic who has the knowledgeofdoing that. I know plenty of mechanics who have replaced tons of lifters on Suburbans used in TLC  black car transportation on NYC, but none of them know how to  disable or modify the AFM (Active Fuel Management) system. Even if you buy a delete kit and bring it to them, they have no idea how to install it. Plus, the software also needs to be updated, which most of them can’t do.

I ended up spending thousands of dollars on this piece of junk GM vehicle. Honestly, you either put up with these issues or switch to another brand.

Eventually, I taught myself how to replace the lifters. But here’s the truth: it’s not always the lifters causing the noise. A lot of times, it’s just a bent pushrod. Mechanics will often charge you for a full lifter job unless you’re standing over their shoulder the entire time.

Replacing a pushrod is much easier and doesn’t require tearing down the whole engine. If you have some basic tools, it’s manageable. There’s one bolt at the back of the engine that can be tricky, but otherwise, it’s a 3-hour job. Lifter replacements take around two days. What many mechanics do is tell you it’s a lifter issue, keep your car for three days, then just replace a $25 pushrod and charge you $2,000 for a lifter job.

 

If you are working in Black Car Trasportation,  than you are in deep trouble like hundreds os drivers like me..

But if you DONT need this specific vehicle,  than change this pice of crap GM for another brand.  GM has the most stupid engineering,  and they will not change,  is the typical American Trush.  I'm very sure by this time you already know that, that is the reason you are looking into AFM modification.

I hope you read this before my post gets deleted at GM’s request—they always do.

Anytime someone speaks negatively about these GM trucks, the post disappears within a few hours, even if everything said is true.

I’m just trying to help. Check for a bent pushrod—it might not be a lifter making that noise. Don’t throw your money away on dishonest mechanics. A lot of them are just waiting to take advantage of someone who doesn’t know better. They all know the trick of blaming the lifters just to overcharge you.

The l86 is part number for part number identical to the lt1 in the camaro and corvette. I’d be looking for a vette/camaro shop. The l83 is very similar.

It will not be cheap unless you DIY. It’s a lot of hours to change a cam.

 

If your only option is paying a shop, I would suggest leaving it alone and replacing the motor if it fails.

How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it. 
    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
