It’s 3rd party abrasives in the castings that didn’t get cleaned out. The abrasives select the engine , bearings , crank, journals.

Does the Camaro and Vette 6.2 engines share the same crank forging as the L87? Isn`t the L87 basically a Vette engine with a truck intake?

I`m having a hard time buying all this 6.2 stuff. Hard to believe all the reasons for failure are confined to one RPO, LT type engine.

Why is that so hard to believe? I don't understand what you are saying.

Never mind what I asked you in your previous post. I see now what you're getting at. That said, It's possible that the Vette and trucks lines used blocks from different builds, and those different builds used parts from different suppliers, or parts from different runs from the same supplier.

I was a mechanic for 25 years. Including a large Chevy dealership. These LT engines share a lot of the same parts but only one has problems? It is hard for me to believe. Troubleshooting not the same as parts changing.

Could be. Troubleshooting is getting to the bottom of the problem. I don`t have any to look at. Just going by what I`m hearing. Don`t make a lot of sense to me.

Somebody cleaned the block castings better than the trucks?  Make sense?  You know what swarf is? Ever bead blast a block or try to clean it up after it came back from the machine shop? Ever get a cast engine component that had fine granules of swarf?  Includes leaving soaps and solvents in the casting that neutralize the overbased oil additives in a casting and hiding.

Could be. Yes I do know what all that is. I have prolly put together more engines than most on this board. Have been on here since 2003. By my post count, I don`t talk just to get my post count up. Getting a little condscending. Notice I said, could be?

Not meant to be condescending just can't believe that as experienced as you are you never saw the casting facilities sending crapdirty blocks heads etc out.  I am a retired cummins engineer from Indiana and we watched GM eat small blocks the same way in the 70's 80's out of FABRICAST in Bedford Indiana.

I get it. Just can`t figure out why a large corporation like GM can clean all their blocks, crank oil passages, heads, etc except one RPO. They outta ALL be trashy.

That's showing you understand mechanics not business.   Its not GM.  It's their contractors, sure they make a vette engine hand built now as I understand it.  But anything that's mass shoved down our throats gets missed. It's sad I agree and understand I think LIKE YOU !  I learned at Cummins that no one built stuff like we did. In house mostly.

I do understand outside vendors. Are the castings cleaned by the vendor or the GM assy plant before assy?

Most folks don`t understand how many parts are NOT made by the brand they bought. Getting fewer as the years go by.

It's like eating crawfish without washing and rinsing before boiling!  I see you are from the real part of LA.
