I messed up my wheel today.  Any good places to check for an OEM replacement?  I have a 21 Denali with 20” chrome wheels.  The only place I can find online is Midwest Wheel and Tire and they want $550 for a new one.  Not bad but would like to see if there are any other options out there.

Are you sure its chrome?

The factory 20" wheel on a Denali that year is a polished aluminum that is clear coated.  Either way $550 isn't bad considering a new one is $839 from a dealer.  I checked some of the replica wheel manufacturers, couldn't find one making that specific wheel.

Correct, it’s polished aluminum.  It’s the one shown with a red box around it.

In looking at it, I’m wondering if it can be repaired.  If so, who does that - Discount Tire type places?  Or, a collision shop?

It holding air.  Looks like it would need some weld to fill the area that got damaged and then hopefully the rest would buff out.

i did take a look at Detroit Wheel and Tire.  They’re at $450 for a reconditioned wheel.  Not sure if that’s better or worse than having mine fixed.  Also makes me wonder if the one I found for $550 is new or reconditioned.

Good news is that I live near Detroit Wheel so I wouldn’t have to pay for shipping.

I ended up making an appointment with Detroit Wheel and Tire.  Thankfully they’re not too far from me.  Cost of the wheel is $449. It’s reconditioned.  Shouldn’t look any worse than my 4 year old wheels.  Not sure what they’ll charge to swap out the wheel but they said they handle that.  I’ll post something after it’s done on 7/9.

Curious, what are you going to do with the old wheel?  Trading in or just keeping it?

They haven’t seen the wheel but from my description of the damage, they said they couldn’t use it.  In order to keep from being scammed, if they don’t give me something for it, I’ll take it home with me.  I’m sure one of the scrappers who come by on garbage day will appreciate it.  I won’t have any use for it.
