2" Hitch 2.5" Receiver Anti Rattle

Anyone have a recommendation for a good 2.5” hitch? So far I am 0-1, I ordered the 2.5” version of the Curt I have (shown in first post) but it was garbage, has more slop in the receiver than my sleeved 2”. 
 

Was looking at BW but 7500lb 2” ball capacity won’t cut it.

I have a Weighsafe hitch, very well made, does not rattle loaded or not and the quick adjustment for the drop allows me to tow all sorts of different trailers level.  I think the 2" ball is rated at 8k lbs.

In the past I've run a bead across the top of the drawbar & then filed it down so that it is snug in the receiver.

I also have a weigh safe but mine is the 2.5” steel 8” drop. It’s 10k on a 2” ball with the 2.5” shaft and 22k for the 2 5/16 ball.

Is this the one you have? It was a little confusing what the 2” ball rating was so I’m glad it’s 10k.

Yes, that’s the one. It’s a heavy beast but you can tell it will last forever. And unlike the aluminum one, there is no chance it will slightly deform over time. 
I don’t worry about rust because I don’t keep it in the receiver when not in use. Plus it has a very nice paint job so it would take time to get any rust anyway.

Is that tube steel or a solid 2 1/2 bar stock that slides into the receiver ? 

 

I think Andrews is a solid cast molded type steel the way it looks but Andrew can confirm that. I just wonder if the method Curt uses to form the portion that slides into the receiver is a little under sized compared to some other brands ?. In fact if both of you happen to own measuring calipers some measurements could be taken to compare the actual shank size and what they really are.

The weigh safe is solid but not a solid chunk of steel.  It’s a tank about 40lbs.

Here is a video I did on mine when I got it. 
On their site they listed a case as an add on so I got it and when it came I realized it is only compatible with the aluminum one. I hope they removed it as an option for the steel one after I called them. 
I modified the case to fit the hitch. It’s very heavy in that case though.

Do these hitches automatically come with the locking adjustment pin for the slide and thus I only need the $30 option to lock the hitch itself to the receiver?

It’s been like 2.5yrs but I think I got that +60 option as I have them all keyed the same. I didn’t want to be fumbling around with different keys.

They come with the locking pin for the height adjustment (at least mine did).  You can opt to have the receiver lock keyed alike or buy it separately and deal with two different keys.  I checked and my balls lol are 8k for the 2" and 18.5k for the 2 5/16.  The case is helpful as well if you don't just leave the hitch in.

I had used the aluminum weighsafe 2 1/2" hitch for over 12 years for my 2500. Never a problem. Set height and ball size and rarely had to change it. But was simple enough to change. I used a different locking pin to connect to truck. So, two keys. Not an issue.

Mine came in a cardboard box but it is not convenient to store it between uses.

I did find that the scale on the hitch was hard for me and my eyes to read so i rarely ever looked at it.

Oh, and I always remove my hitch when not in use.

I call it the "shin saver".

Also prevents one from backing up into someones grill.

I recently bought the steel 8” drop 2.5” shaft Weigh Safe hitch like Pryme has except mine has the updated Ver 2 glycerin filled scale. The storage case now accommodates the 2” and 2.5” shaft size steel hitches. I got that also. The steel hitch is wicked beefy and heavy.

 

i haven’t towed anything yet with the Weigh Safe as my utility trailer and boat/trailer are tucked away for the winter. I plan on getting an N&N dump trailer next Spring if they are readily available.
