The 20" Factory Goodyears are finally starting to make some noise

I can't really complain, they have been amazing up until the 43k mark.  As we all know these trucks are quiet, like super quiet inside and just recently I started hearing them.  I hate tire noise but there's still enough tread at 44k plus that I'll stop rotating them and just let them wear down where they are.  I bet I get another 10k out of them if I can "stand" the little bit of noise they are emitting.  I'm being a little dramatic here, they are still fairly quiet, but I can hear them....lol...

 

Anyhow for the area I live in (Bama) they have been amazing!!  This past Christmas we drove to our friends house in NH.  I was excited to be able to use 4wd which is a rarity here in Bama.  They worked exceptionally well in the snow and ice.  So they still have some life left in them.  I just want silence.  They are wearing evenly, no signs of alignment issues, nothing.  So what do you all think as a super quiet, mainly concrete jungle driving to and from work living in Bama that I should start researching?  I've done some research on youtube, but I don't trust most of those reviews.  So if any of you like quiet E rated tires like I do, what do you recommend?

 

Edit:  I've been very happy with the goodyears and have no problem buying another set of them.  I was just wondering if there's something out there better I should look at.

One of the best on the market is the Michelin LTX M/S if they have your size, they will be quiet and have great traction while lasting a long time. My work sells these tires the most by far. Likely going to cost the most but if you shop at Sams club, Costco or maybe Discount Tire, wait for a sale/rebate to save you $80-100.

 

I know Continental and Hankook make a highway tread design for those heavy trucks too. They won't have the look many people want but they tend to be a quieter tire because of the tread pattern.

I had a set of Michelin LTX Defenders on my 2020 and was very happy with them.  Excellent in the rain and super quiet.  They had about 30K on them when I traded the truck.  However looks like they quit making them and have changed the model to "Defender LTX Platinum".  Probably as good or better but they are pricey.  

 

I have had good luck looking at the customer reviews on Tire Rack.  You have to filter them a bit on your own.

I didn't mind the OEM Goodyears, but mine were done at 40K.  Maybe the heavy oil burner didn't help that.

Maybe, probably...who knows.  The extra weight will surely have a difference at some point.  But I've the got the lighter weight gasser.  Who knows...unless someone has the time to accurately track this stuff, it's still a weird whatever...lol

I probably didn't get all the miles out of them I could have.  As I recall, I had a long trip with the camper coming up when I changed them. 

 

I admit to being a bit of a tire snob.  You pay for cheap tires every time you drive.  We bought a used car out in New Mexico a couple years ago for the wife to drive to work in the winter.  It had some brand brand new El Cheapo chinese tires on it.  I hated them so much on the drive home they were gone within a week.

I love Michelins!!!  That's the only tire I would run on my Mercedes back in the day because, well, they were perfect!  They rode amazingly. They lasted about 50k.  Yes even back then they were top dollar, but worth every penny.  Now today talking about our HD trucks.....ummmm.... I don't know.  I think they would be great for a road only HD truck, of which most of my driving is.  BUT damn, they are top dollar.  Todays tires are super expensive.  Almost regardless of brand as well.  I loved them on my benzes but....maybe a possible option.  Maybe.. I will look into it sir.

I get it, tires are one of the most important items that you can put on a car or truck.  Because they make all of the difference it how it rides, noise, handling.  Tires are so important.  I totally get it.

The LTX Platinum's are a good tire too but yeah they ask a ton for them. They were designed to last like 60 or 70,000 miles per what Michelin is saying. Longer than what most got from the LTX M/S.

 

There is also the Michelin Agillis cross climate if they have your size, I think those are a little cheaper than the Platinum's and they will be a good quiet tire too.

 

I like the Toyo Open Country AT3's too. I put them on my parents half ton truck a few years ago. The only thing they notice is that at low speeds under like 15mph, you can hear them a little when they are new because of the tread pattern. On the highway I can't hear them over normal road noise.

Interesting, lots of videos on those tires and for the most part people love them!  I'll have to seriously look at them.  Thank you for your comment!

At first glance, I was thinking $434 per tire was kinda high for the LTX Platinum, but sadly almost everything is well over $400 each.  I think you have 20's on your truck?

 

I have a set of Cooper Discoverer Stronghold on my 2004 winter beater and they hum quite noticeably.  Good in the snow and not horribly expensive which was goal #1 for that truck.

What most people don't know is tires are made of oil.  When oil gets cheap, the price still goes up....interesting fact there how most everyone gets screwed, not only from oil prices but most everything else.

I have the Cooper Stronghold on my 2020 Ram 2500 company truck and yes, they are louder even when new. And louder than the Cooper Discoverer AT3 that was on it before. I did get 65k out of them and probably could have easily gone another 8k but they started getting loud at about 40k and the noise continued to increase.

 

My '21 D'Max is about ready for a set and will probably go with Michelin tires. I've never been disappointed with a set of Michelins.

Which ever tires you decide, get some Centramatic balancers to improve the life of the tires and get a smoother ride.

What overpriced nonsense is this?

 

A proper road force balancing is all that is needed on a truck 1 ton or less.  That's it.  This is somehow worse than someone recommending balancing beads, which, are again not needed on these trucks.
