That is the oil pump catching a prime. They have been doing that for years. The TSB is 14-06-04-004I. The document ID is 7100140. Maybe someone who is more computer savy can figure out how to upload it here. I only fix them.

MJM 1957 Thank you for your reply !

How often does the oil pump need to be primed .?

So far I only notice this noise when the truck has been sitting overnight . Is there a length of time the truck sits  before it will  make that noise and do the prime again ?

Mine suprised me the other day and did it. It`s hot down here now. It only did it once. But, it will usually do it after sitting overnight in the colder weather. Never usually does it in the warmer weather.

Fellas help me with this !

Would a Dealership Service Department not check with GM to see if there have been similar  complaints  concerning this issue  ?

Can a Technician at the Dealership contact General Motors directly with this problem and ask Is this issue the normal

function of the start up ?

If it's something they cannot figure out they can contact GM. They have a case open for noise in the suspension and my whistling drivers mirror they cant figure out how to fix.

They replaced the Starter think that was the issue . Well no that's not what it was !

At least I did not have to pay for it

Sorry to hear replacing the starter didn’t fix anything. My truck has been annoying with a few issues too. Some of them I would have thought to be an easy fix and they can’t seem to figure out.

Some service advisors are clue-free. Others seem to feel an obligation to deny knowledge of well known issues. Some are very good. I received a total runaround from my selling dealer regarding the TSB for the transmission cooler bypass valve set temperature change, but usually they are pretty good.

I still can’t get an audio file to upload, and I am not going to set up a YouTube account for it. However, if your truck briefly sounds like a diesel for 1/4 to 1/2 second very shortly after it starts, that’s the oil pump priming issue. It occurs after extended shutdown because some oil drainback occurs creating an air gap in the pump intake path. It is normal, it occurs more in colder weather and with longer shutdown times.
