NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

While I'm looking into some wrecked lux SUVs I'm wondering if I can use the amp wiring harness instead of splicing into mine. Would I be correct in assuming that a lux 2003-2005 will swap into my Silverado w/UC6 for use in a future nav/6-disk upgrade with lux amp?

Hey BBSilverado; I just want to thank you for joining in this thread and helping out with all of our questions. With you, Speery, and Linda, the information is great.

That will work if your getting the full harness, It will not work if you are just getting the console harness that goes to the amp, cdx, and the other console items like the cig. lighter, power outlet, and the rear seat controls

You don't really have to "splice into your harness" you just remove the wires from the amp connector and replace them back into the same connector but in a different position. You will have to add one wire from the headunit to the amp.

I will try to post the needed schematics for this swap.

Here is the wires that need to be moved in the 24 pin connector to go from a non-lux amp to a lux amp.

A1 - do nothing

A2 - do nothing

A5 - move to A4 (brown wire)

A6 - move to A3 (yellow)

A7 - move to A8 (dark blue)

A8 - move to A7 (light blue)

A9 - move to A5 (tan)

A10 - move to A6 (gray)

A11 - move to A9 (light green)

A12 - move to A10 (dark green)

B1 - cap off, not used (gray/black)

B2 - cap off, not used (purple)

B3 - cap off, not used (black)

B4 - cap off, not used (dark blue)

B5 - cap off, not used (dark green/white)

B6 - cap off, not used (brown)

B7 - move to B3 (orange/black)

B8 - move to B6 (light green)

B9 - move to B4 (dark green)

B10 - move to B5 (tan)

B11 - cap off, not used (pink)

B12 - move to B7 (bare wire)

Add data bus wire from B1 (small orange wire) on the headunit 24 pin connector to B10

Add microphone wire to B1 (optional, but recommended for the sound compensated volume to work)

Your welocme, but I must say that everthing I learned about this came from Linda, Sperry, poonis, and a few others.

I'm just glad I can help by passing on the info.

In that case...Changing a complete harness would most likely be a harder task than making the wiring mods. I'll do the mods...

Yes, the mods are alot easier to do than changing the complete harness.

Could you make a tutorial that walks people thru the conversion? List parts needed…. Then you could have a sticky post so everyone could view. I personal want to start but I am unsure of everything I need.

Were would you put a CD changer in a 2004 Envoy XUV?

Thanks

Witch conversion do you want to do?

non-lux nav install (easiest)

non-lux nav install with CDX

lux nav install with lux amp swap (alot harder on the Envoys)

do you currently have a slave device (I.E. XM, Onstar, RSA, or RSE)

There is no place to mount the factory style indash CDX on the Envoy and Trailblazer, you would have to make a custom install somewhere (console, glove box, etc.) or use a cartridge style changer and mount it under the seat or in the back

I want to add the non-lux with the CD player. The dealer told me that my Envoy had XM but it did not. I do have Onstar, Rear controls, and wheel controls. If the cd player would fit I would put it in my console.

Can you help me out with what I need? I see a non-Lux on ebay….

Thanks

Steve

The non-lux will be plug and play, if you get a used one the unit will have to be programmed with a Tech II at any GM dealership. A new one will not need any programming. You must also get a GPS antenna for it. Any GM GPS antenna will work but you may have to custom mount it under the dash pad.

There is one wire that should be added to the 12 pin connector on the headunit and you pick that wire up behind the gauge cluster, it is the VSS wire (vehicle speed signal). this added wire is optional but will make the nav tracking a little smoother on the display.

I'm not sure if the indash changer can be mounted in any other position other than horizontal or a few degrees off. I have never tried one in a verticle position.

JP customs has a new cartridge style changer for the 03's and up that you can mount anywhere and it still works the same as the indash one.

It is $300

XM is a separate receiver and is not built into any of the headunits. The headunits have the ability to control the XM tuner if you had it or add it.

what you will need for a non-lux setup is:

nav HU #15108421 (INR)

or

nav HU #10377287 (TNR)

antenna #15135178

CDX harness #15312903
