NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

That looks great, Endo!!!! :ughdance: I hope mine comes out that well when im finished!! One question... It seems your cd changer fits a bit differently than Jimmy's does. It looks like Jimmy's CDX sticks out a bit farther and more of the CDX's bezel is visible around the edge of the CD insertion slot. Did you do something different than Jimmy did? They both look great, im just curious why one came out a bit differently. I made a comparison pic but i guess you cant post pics on this forum if you dont have a host!! :ughdance:

Finally all done!

Thanks again for all the help everyone!  I took your advice Linda and shaved the pocket to 3/16" and it fits just about perfect.  I still need to take off a tiny bit more of the pocket though, as the little tabs on the lower left corner of the bezel are not fully engaging (not really visible in the pic).  I'm going to do the rest with a file/sandpaper...I think your recommendation of 3/16" was the right distance to make the cut though.  I had to remove the little box on the back of the changer that houses the connector (the connector now hangs freely), but I did not remove/bend down the tabs that hold it in place.

Not sure if this was mentioned before, but I figured I'd pass on this technique that worked really well for cutting the bezel.  I first hacked off everything but an inch of it with a it with a sabresaw.  I then used two c-clamps to hold a metal straight edge to it to guide the cut, and then made the cut as recommended with a utility knife.  I was able to do this on all fours sides and got a really clean cut out of the deal.

Do you mean that you cut out most of the WHOLE pocket except leaving an inch and proceded from there? Good to see that things worked well for you. I'm almost ready to start.

I'm not sure which user's real name is Jimmy...but I've pretty much followed the instructions in this thread and don't *think* I did anything different.

My photo does not show it quite100% completed though. I cut off a little tiny bit more of the pocket this afternoon, as the lower left corner of the two-pocket insert was no longer fully engaging into the console. I took some photos while I was in there and of the two-pocket piece itself...I'll post 'em momentarily.

Some photos for anyone doing the changer mod...

CD changer as mounted in console. Two sheetmetal screws holding it in to plastic console structure. (Disregard the yellow wire, it was just used to fish the cd-changer harness through the dash).

Endo--- thank-you SO much for those pictures!!!!! :smash::( Im sure I am not the only person who greatly appreciates the clarification on the mounting of the CDX!!! Jimmy is "Linda". I was just curious If he did anything differently than you did...but regardless, yours came out looking GREAT and thanks again for the extra pictures. I only pulled out my "pocket section" quickly and never checked if the pocket itself was perpendicular to the opening of the pocket... If so, ill probably mess around with making a jig for the table saw that allows me to hack off the back of the pocket neatly in one pass...

Nope, thats pretty much what i did. Looks real nice, good job. I have been inandated with Emails in the past month for more LUX AMPs, I am sorry for not getting back to you guys in a timely fashion but I have been really bogged down at work lately (80hrs a week). I hope to get these AMPs I have here tested this weekend and up on Ebay, or sold to the guys here that I told I would contact. Also, In the near future I am planning on getting about a dozen of these 03'-05' console bezels and cutting them out to accept the CDX for those who may be a bit intimidated about hacking up thier original bezel. I will also be throwing them up on Ebay as well. I am not sure if there is a demand for them, but by the looks of my Inbox, there might be.. :smash:.

linda, I would def. be interested... Could there be a core charge/trade-in option?

I suppose there could be, but i was doing it mostly so you could have something to revert back to if you wanted. Let me get my hands on a few more of these and i will let you all know. Why do i get the feeling "JP Customs" is going to beat me to the punch on this?... :withstupid:

Hi Everyone. . .

I'm new to this forum. . .and new to owning a GM product. Just picked up a new H2 SUT last week - first non-Chrysler product in a long time and so far I'm lovin' it. This post is a bit off topic, but this very long thread seems to have regular posters who might be able to answer my questions.

It came with the 2005 Nav radio touch screen with the rear controls, XM, etc. The only thing it seems to be lacking is an AUX input (it and most factory sound systems other than my Stealth) so that I can use my iPod. I asked at the dealership and they said that the Nav unit precluded the installation of the six cd changer and there was no way to connect the iPod. I've pressed the salesman to see if they are aware of any aftermarket products and I'm waiting for a response. I've done a lot of research and found the places like PAC that sell cables and other products, but frankly, I know nothing about this. I've read a lot of what Linda said and it's been a learning experience. Apparently they were wrong about the CD changer, so I'm hoping they were wrong about the iPod. But I still don't even know where to start. So . . .

Is there a way to add an iPod interface to the Hummer nav unit? If there is more than one, which would you folks think is the best? And does this type of work void the warranty?

Thanks in advance. . .

Here's an adapter for iPod for GM.

I haven't used it so I'm not sure how well it works, but it sounds like you can control iPod using the stock HU.

Be aware that if you use this adapter that you cannot also add a CD Changer.

Uses CD Changer Port, If Vehicle has existing CD Changer it must be disconnected.

Why GM went this route for '05 with having a TNR model that doesn't allow for the addition of an external slave 6-disc CD changer on the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon (and apparently H2, too) is beyond me...especially since Denali and Escalade TNR models allow for (if not already come with) the external slave changer. I mean, IIRC--the '05 Tahoe/Suburbans that come with TNR units do not offer a 6-disc CD changer option...meaning (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that if you wanted to listen to the factory CD you had to first eject the nav disc from the TNR unit, then load the audio CD into the TNR.

I posted this to the Chevy Avalanche fan club site but didnt seem to get a response...perhaps someone knows over here....

PAC's IPOD-2-CAR (or AUX-POD..whatever theyre calling it now) looked very intriguing to me and i was interested in purchasing it...until i saw that when installed, you lose functionality of ANY auxilary input devices (XM, RSE, External CDX). I have XM in my truck and have a Escalade CDX sitting on the bench ready to install... I would love to have my iPod work with the SWC (steering wheel controls)...but if I installed it, my 325$ XM option and 150$ (ebay) Escalade CD Changer would be useless. :( Is there ANY way to modify the Ipod-2-Car to work with the other AUX devices??? I'd imagine it would just be a matter of snipping off the plug from the ipod-2-car harness, finding a pin-out of which wires are which, and then splicing in the (left audio, right audio, common audio, Class II data) correct wires. Maybe a toggle switch would be needed inline there to activate the iPod-2-Car... Its like PAC knocked the ball clear over the fence, but forgot to run all the bases for a home run... I already won a AAI-GM12 on ebay because I assumed the Ipod-2-car wouldnt work...but i won it for only 23 dollars...and I can always sell it again if there is a fix for this anoying problem!!! :chevy:

thanks again everyone

All the TNR's will accept the CDX if you add it. The tahoe's Yukon, and Suburban just didn't have it as an option, but it still can be added to the TNR's and same way we added it to the IRN's in the trucks.
